摘要： An improvement in a sealless connection (10) between two overlapped segments of strapping (12,14). The sealless connection (10) comprises a plurality of joints (16) arrayed longitudinally, each comprising a pair of shoulders (24,26), which interlock when the segments (12,14) are tensioned. The connection (10) further comprises notches (30) provided respectively in superposed edges on opposite sides of the respective segments (12,14) and operable as an "anti-reverse" locking means. The notches (30) are provided after the shoulders (24,26) are interlocked. The segments (12,14) are formed at the notches (30) to prevent the segments (12,14) from shifting longitudinally to unlock the interlocked shoulder (24,26). The notched edges of the respective segments (12,14) are uninterrupted, except for the notch (30), where the respective segments (12,14) are crimped.

摘要： A method and apparatus are provided for forming a strap loop and securing it about an article (P). The strap free end is pressed against a guide surface (224) and moved in a path to form a primary strap loop (LP) while permitting the primary strap loop (Lp) to twist off of the guide surface (224). With the free end of the strap (S) held against further movement, the trailing portion of the strap (S) is fed to expand the loop to a predetermined larger size. The article (P) is inserted in the loop (L F ) and the trailing portion of the strap (8) is withdrawn to tighten the loop (L F ) about the package (P). The trailing portion of the strap (S) is severed from the tightened strap loop (LF) and the overlapping portions of the strap (S) are then sealed by a friction-fusion weld.

摘要： A washer strip (12) is provided for use in connection with a rapid acting fastener driving tool apparatus. The washer strip comprises a plurality of resilient sealing washers (24) serially connected at selected weakened shear locations (26). Each of the washers defines an opening (28) adapted to receive a fastener element shank portion (19), when the fastener (14) is driven by a driver blade (16).
The fastener (14) slides within the washer (24) until the washer is situated just beneath the head portion (20), whereupon the washer (24) is sheared and separated at the shear location from the remainder of the connected washers in the strip (12). A seal is thus provided on the portion of the shank (19) just beneath the head portion (20) between the fastening element head portion and the portion of the shank distant from the head portion, so that substantially no waste material is produced. In another arrangement one or more washer strips (22) hold and carry the fasteners (14) in strip form.

摘要： A pneumatic fastener applying tool (10) featuring a self-cycling control valve (15) with one moving port (76, 74). A trigger actuated valve (46) sets the cyling valve (15) in motion. The cycling valve (15) alternatively pressurizes and vents the working piston (14) of the fastenertool (10). A valve stem (76, 74) is positioned by an integral reciprocating piston (76). The position of the reciprocating piston (76) is determined by the balance of forces between a biasing spring (96) tending to vent the working piston (14) and a pressure-force tending to pressurize the working piston (14). Two flow paths (88; 90, 92), internal to the valve stem (76, 74), determine the pressure applied to the reciprocating piston (76). One path pressurizes the reciprocating piston (76). Another path (90,92) vents the reciprocating piston (76). Positive feedback of air pressure from the working cylinder (12) positions the reciprocating piston (76) and valve stem (76,74) so as to vent the reciprocating piston (76) when the working piston (14) is vented and to pressurize the reciprocating piston (76) when the working piston (14) is pressurized. Releasing the trigger actuated valve (46) holds the cycling valve (15) in place and prevents further operation of the fastener tool (10).
