An improved process for the separate recovery of substantially pure ammonia and substantially pure carbon dioxide from mixtures containing ammonia and carbon dioxide, and possibly water, such as are obtained as by-products in the manufacture of melamine from urea or the synthesis of urea from ammonia and carbon dioxide. The by-product mixture is introduced into a process loop having an ammonia separation zone, a carbon dioxide separation zone and a desorption zone, the zone to which the mixture is initially fed being dependent upon its composition. The separation is effected by maintaining a system pressure differential between the ammonia and carbon dioxide separation zones, or adding diluting water to the carbon dioxide separation zone. The efficiency of the separation is enhanced by introducing a carbon dioxide containing gaseous phase, and preferably an excess of an inert gas, into the bottom of the ammonia separation zone.

To improve the flowproperties of the mixture introduced into the processing equipment and the throughput of this equipment the invention is characterized in that said granular composition has a particle size distribution with at least two peaks, and that the ratio between the diameters at said peaks exceeds 1.5.

The obtention of enzyme preparations having inulinase activity is disclosed. Said preparations are obtained from cultures of Aspergillus phoenicis, preferably the strain CBS 294.80. They possess a high inulinase activity, combined with favorable pH range and lack of inhibition by the substrate inuline or heavy-metal ions. One possible use is in the preparation of fructose from naturally occurring inuline.

Flame resistant thermoplastic moulding materials are disclosed based on one or more thermoplastic polymers, a bromine-containing copolymer and optionally one or more flame-retardant metal compounds. As the bromine-containing copolymer a copolymer of nuclear brominated styrene with one or more other monomers, such as acrylonitrile, styrene and/or alpha- methylstyrene, is used. An ABS-graft copolymer is preferably used as the thermoplastic polymer. These moulding materials exhibit excellent physical and working properties while retaining high flame-retardant values.

A process for removing melamine from liquids containing melamine by biological means. The aqueous solution or suspension of melamine is brought into contact with microorganisms or enzyme preparations having melaminase activity, and the resulting mixture is maintained under anaerobic conditions whereby at least a portion of the melamine is biodegraded.
