A need to maintain different uplink transmission timing for the first user equipment component carrier and second uplink component carrier is detected ( 1202) by the base station. The base station then sends ( 1204) a second TA command based on the detected need to maintain different uplink transmission timing. The second TA command is applicable to uplink transmissions on the first component carrier and /or the second component carrier. The user equipment adjusts uplink transmissions on the first component carrier and/ or the second uplink component carrier based on the second timing advance command.

A method in a user equipment for handling a scheduling request is provided. The user equipment comprises a buffer. After receiving data arriving into the buffer to be transmitted to a base station, the user equipment triggers a scheduling request. The scheduling request is pending until it is cancelled. The user equipment cancels the pending scheduling request in response to determining that either the scheduling request is accounted for in a buffer status report to be included in a scheduled data transmission to be transmitted to the base station, or all data will be included in a scheduled data transmission to be transmitted to the base station.
