An ozone containing gas is injected into soil, preferably relatively dry and approximately uniform in consistency, to kill biological life forms. The method and apparatus for ozone treatment of soil suitable for plant growth purposes can be used in conjunction with other agricultural methods such as irrigation (801), tilling (802), and fertilization (805). For example, soil is irrigated (801) to ensure proper moisture for tilling (802) and afterwards is allowed to dry (803) by exposure to the sun or is dried artifically with heated air. Then, after an ozone treatment step (804) the soil is fertilized (805) for receiving seeds or seedlings (806). The plants from seeds or seedlings experience enhanced growth due to absence of detrimental biological organisms that were killed by ozone treatment (804). The soil is once again irrigated (807) and pesticides or herbicides applied (808), as needed. After harvesting (809), the steps can be repeated for another season.

An apparatus and method is disclosed for cultivating soil and turf by utilization of pressurized liquid injected into the soil and turf. A roller assembly (33) is provided for applying mechanical pressure to the turf after cultivation. Further, a means for setting a first speed in a transport mode and a second speed in a cultivating mode is provided. The apparatus is designed to be bidirectional to allow the apparatus to be used in both a forward and reverse direction. The apparatus is such that, in use, there is created a water hammer effect which is sufficient to effect the flow of liquid out of the nozzles in the form of a square wave pulse.

A method for the subsurface application of fertilizers, biologicals, fumigants, non-fumigant pesticides or other chemicals to soil with reduced application rates. Discrete amounts of the materials are injected into the soil at numerous sites along a path during a pass through the soil. At the injection sites, the materials form diffusion patterns which may touch or overlapping with diffusion patterns of adjacent soil injections. The application of materials to soil in this manner maintains optimum efficacy with the use of the least amount of materials necessary per acre of soil.
