摘要: In a wound drainage system, blood, water and other body fluids withdrawn from a patient enter a collection chamber (303) through a port (310). A conduit (323) for carrying collected fluids in excess of the capacity of the chamber (303) to a further collection chamber (305) extends from a wall (311) dividing the chambers (303,305) into the chamber (303). The lowermost entrance portion of the conduit (323) is arranged on an imaginary vertical line extending through the centre of gravity of the chamber (303); preferably at a distance d from the uppermost wall (317) defining the chamber (303) where d is given by the formula w/(2 tan ϑ), w being the distance between the closest [at the level of the lowermost entrance portion (333)] of the walls (309,311,319,321) defining the chamber (303) and 90-ϑ being the maximum angle of rotation about an axis perpendicular to the imaginary vertical axis before spillage occurs. This arrangement will minimise overspill, prior to full capacity caused by tilting the collection chamber (303).

摘要: A valve (10) is provided primarily for medical or surgical aspiration equipment, in which body fluid (e.g. from a wound or breast) is drawn into a collecting bottle by the removal of air through a pipe(11), the pipe (12) of the valve being connected, possibly via a filter, to the low pressure side of an air pump.
An elongated, hollow valve member (14) closed at its top end (16) and open at its bottom end (27) has limited reciprocative movement coaxially within a chamber (13) between the valve-open position, in which it is shown, and a valve-closed position in which a sealing ring (32) at the closed end (16) of the valve member (14) makes contact with a valve seat (31) surrounding the outlet opening (17) of the chamber (13).
By the co-operation of fins (18, 19, 20) on the valve member (14) with the inner periphery of the chamber (13) and with a protrusion (22) thereof the valve member (14) is held in an angular position such that the opening (23) of the pipe (11) in the chamber wall and an opening (24) provided in a shoulder (25) of the valve member are in register when the valve is open. Thus indrawn air passes to the interior of the valve member (14), thence into the chamber (13) through slits (28) defined between the open end (27) of the valve member (14) and the bottom (15) and the bottom (15) of the chamber, thence upward through the annular passage between the valve member (14) and the inner periphery of the chamber (13) and so out of the chamber (13) through the outlet (17).
If the slits (28) are occluded e.g. by froth or liquid drawn in from the bottle through the pipe (11) the resulting pressure drop across the valve member (14) will raise it to the valve-closed position.

摘要: The invention relates to a device for drainage, comprising a tubular reservoir (100) having a pliable wall (1), a rigid cover (3), and a rigid bottom (2), and having at least one spring (4), which exerts a force that presses the cover (3) and the bottom (2) apart, wherein the cover (3) is movable in the direction of the bottom (2) in order to place the spring into the start position. According to the invention, the device has one or more magnets (11, 12), which are configured such that the magnets exert an additional force onto the reservoir (100) in such a way that a resulting force pressing the cover (3) and the bottom (2) apart is substantially constant across that part of the spring path.

摘要: An apparatus (10) for controlling flow of fluid from a wound site of a patient may include a chamber (28) connectable to a wound site and a reservoir (16). The chamber (28) may have a first deformed state, and a second state in which it is not deformed or less deformed than in the first state. The chamber (28) may be adapted to manage fluid flow between the wound site and the reservoir (16) during transition of the chamber (28) between the first state and the second state. An actuator element (64) of the apparatus (10) may be adapted to operate on the chamber (28) to transition the chamber (28) from the second state to the first state.

摘要: A cassette 74 for use with an ophthalmic surgical pump 16 for collecting aspirant fluid and tissue from a patient's eye includes a rigid walled container 18 having an interior volume 42. At least one tapered alignment slot 20 is formed in a side wall of the container 18 and extends from a back wall 24 towards a front wall 26. An irrigation and aspiration manifold base 50 is removeably attached to the container 18. An aspiration path 46 is formed within the container 18 for receiving the aspiration fluid and the tissue from the eye and directing the flow of fluid towards a front half of the container 18 before the fluid and tissue collects within a majority of the interior volume 42 of the container 18. A fluid level indicator 34 is formed on a wall 22 of the container 18, such that an associated photo-detector 86 of the pump 16 may determine a level of fluid in the container 18.

摘要: Systems and methods for reduced pressure tissue treatments, including a multi- orientation canister. The canister includes an inlet for receiving fluids from a tissue site, and a main chamber in fluid communication with the inlet for receiving fluids from the inlet. The canister includes a filter chamber separated from the main chamber by one or more filter chamber walls. The one or more filter chamber walls includes a primary hole having a first diameter and a secondary hole having a second diameter smaller than the first diameter. The primary hole provides a first path of fluid communication between the filter chamber and the main chamber. The canister includes an outlet for providing fluid communication between the filter chamber and a reduced pressure source.
