A mechanical fluid pressure modification valve, or “MFLP-valve”, is set forth. The MFLP-valve can be actuated upon movement of a movable pressure system member of a medical pressure system reaching a selected position. Additionally, the MFLP-valve can be actuated based on a pressure condition of the system. When the MFLP-valve unseals, a pressure differential between a pressure chamber and a volume outside of the chamber can be relieved. Disengagement of the movable pressure system member from the MFLP-valve can enable the MFLP-valve to re-seal. The MFLP-valve may include a flag that indicates the position of the movable pressure system member. The MFLP-valve may be provided in a diaphragm-type pressure source.

The illustrative embodiments described herein are directed to apparatuses, systems, and methods for managing liquid flow associated with a tissue site that involves using reduced pressure to control fluid flow. In one instance, an apparatus includes a first valve and a second valve in fluid communication with a reduced-pressure source. The valves are movable between an open position and a closed position and are operable to change flow status (open to closed or vice versa) based on a presence of reduced pressure. At least one of the first valve or the second valve is in the closed position to obstruct a flow of a liquid while the other is in the open position. The apparatus also includes a reservoir fluidly coupled to the first valve and the second valve. Other systems, methods, and apparatuses are presented.

Apparatuses, systems, and methods are provided for rapid venting of vacuum to mitigate occlusion break surge within a phaco fluidics aspiration system. The aspiration system may utilize a positive displacement pump to generate flow and a vent valve to vent or moderate the pressure or vacuum level based on pressure sensor feedback detected within the eye and at the pump. Embodiments described herein provide a quick-opening vent valve that produces a quick-opening flow response upon angular rotation of the quick-opening vent valve. The flow performance at the quick-opening vent valve is improved by increasing the effective cross-sectional area of the valve at near-closed valve positions. In particular, the increase in the cross-sectional area is achieved by forming a concaving edge portion to complement a circular edge of and opening of a flow channel formed through the vent valve.

An apparatus and method for managing reduced pressure at a tissue site are disclosed. The apparatus comprises a pump for supplying reduced pressure to the tissue site, a motor coupled to the pump to propel the pump, and a drive system electrically coupled to the motor that includes a power source that provides a source of direct current power to the motor during an operational period at a substantially constant current and of sufficient magnitude to supply a targeted reduced pressure during the operational period. The drive system also includes a controller that monitors the pump's loading on the motor by measuring the voltage across the motor to determine whether the motor voltage remains within a predetermined operational range of voltages necessary for maintaining the reduced pressure supplied by the pump proximate to the targeted reduced pressure without directly measuring the reduced pressure using a pressure sensor.

Said system comprises a rover including a portable cart; at least one waste container supported by the cart, the container having a connecting member for receiving a suction line through which medical/surgical waste is drawn into the container from a surgical handpiece applied to a surgical site; and a first rover coupling configured to convey waste from the at least one waste container; and a second rover coupling configured to convey fluid into the at least one waste container; a carrier mounted to said portable cart and carrying said first and second rover couplings; and a vacuum source adapted for providing a vacuum to the at least one waste container to draw the waste through the suction line into the waste container. The system also comprises a docker with a fixed frame; and a first docker coupling configured to mate with the first rover coupling and that is connected to a drain line; and a second docker coupling configured to mate with the second rover coupling and that is connected to a water line. The docker further comprises a floating frame comprising a floating plate that is configured to move relative to the fixed frame to allow the docker couplings to align with the rover couplings; and a mating interface, comprising the docker couplings and moveably attached to said floating frame to move with said floating frame and configured to move the docker couplings relative to the floating plate so that the docker coupling can move between a disengaged position in which the docker couplings are spaced from the rover couplings and an engaged position in which the docker couplings are mated to the rover couplings; and the carrier of the rover includes guide features attached to the carrier, the carrier being configured to cooperate with said floating plate so as to assist in aligning the docker couplings with the rover couplings.
