The invention provides for an improvement of the overall efficiency of a process for the separation of gaseous impurities from a gas mixture by selective, adiabatic adsorption of the impurities on an adsorbent, followed by desorption of the impurities and regeneration of the adsorbent by pressure relief and purging of the adsorbent at low pressure with less contaminated to practically pure gas and repressurization, while applying a number of zones (1-7) containing adsorbent, said zones being used alternatively in a cyclic manner, in that each cycle comprises a number of stages which, starting with an adsorption zone wherein impurities have been adsorbed (has become exhausted), comprise a first stage wherein the gaseous phase which is present in the voidspace of said adsorption zone (1), while the inlet is closed is expanded via the outlet, the expanded gas being introduced into another regenerated adsorption zone (7), via its outlet, until pressure equalization in both zones is obtained, a second stage wherein the gas present in the first voids of the first adsorption zone (1) is further expanded through its outlet and the gas obtained from this further expansion is received in a packed column (9), a third stage wherein the expanded gas received in the packed column (9) is removed from said column in the reverse direction and is introduced into a regenerated adsorption zone (2) via its outlet, and is used for purging and/or partial repressurization of said adsorption zone, a fourth stage, wherein, while the inlet is closed product quality gas is introduced into the first adsorption (1) zone via its outlet until the pressure in this adsorption zone is equal to the pressure of the product gas stream and a fifth stage, wherein the gas mixture from which impurities have to be removed is passed through the first adsorption (1) zone in the direction inlet to outlet.

A pressure swing adsorption system includes a pressure vessel, a nozzle plate coupled to the vessel and sealed with respect to the pressure vessel, a backing plate that supports the nozzle plate, and a manifold including a plenum cavity and coupled to the nozzle plate via a neck such that the plenum cavity is in fluid communication with an interior of the pressure vessel. The neck is sealed with respect to the nozzle plate via a movable sealing surface. A method is provided in which pressure from the plenum cavity assists in closing valve coupled to the manifold. A removable insert is provided to the manifold to provide a removable sealing surface against which the valve closes.

The present invention called a patient ventilator oxygen concentration system advantageously utilizes an existing suitable air supply and provides a modular oxygen concentrator that uses the existing air supply and a medical grade air filtration package for providing medical grade using the existing air supply. The oxygen concentrator has multiple bed pairs which can be selectively activated. If one of the multiple bed pairs is not activated, the excess air provided by the existing air supply is filtered and medical grade air is supplied instead of oxygen gas for use with patient ventilators.

In a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) pre-purification process for a feed gas prior to its introduction into a cryogenic distillation unit, at least four adsorbent beds are used. There is performed on each bed the steps, performed in a cyclical manner, of feed, blowdown, purge and repressurisation in a repeating sequence. Optionally, a bed-to-bed pressure equalisation step is employed in the process. The resulting process provides for continual repressurisation during the cycle and a constant flow rate of purified feed gas to the distillation unit.
