Die Vorrichtung (10) besitzt Haltemittel (12, 80) zum Festhalten des Kunststofferzeugnisses (16) sowie Kühlmittel. (70 - 76, 90, 92) zum Kühlen eines ersten Oberflächenabschnitts (22, 28) davon. Dabei beinhalten die Haltemittel eine bevorzugt tubusartige Aufnahme (12) mit einer Innenwand (106), die das Kunststofferzeugnis (16) umgibt. Erfindungsgemäß halten die Haltemittel (12, 80) das Kunststofferzeugnis (16) mit einem definierten Freiraum (108) zwischen der Innenwand (106) und dem ersten Oberflächenabschnitt (22, 28). Des weiteren beinhalten die Kühlmittel (70 - 76, 90, 92) einen Mediumstrom (72), der in dem Freiraum (108) an dem ersten Oberflächenabschnitt (22, 28) entlang geführt ist.

Plant for cooling preforms, comprising a collection and translation element provided with a plurality of receptacles adapted to accommodate respective preforms that are usually knocked out of an injection mould, a revolving-turret element with two opposite surfaces provided with a plurality of cups adapted to accommodate a respective preform; said turret revolves in a controlled manner about a horizontal axis so as to successively orientate the two surfaces upwards and downwards, and the collection and translation element can be displaced with a translational motion from a preform loading position selectively to a plurality of distinct positions, which lie above the surfaces of the turret when rotated upwards, and can engage and release the preforms from the respective receptacles. The distribution pattern of the receptacles is similar to the distribution pattern of the cups so as to enable the preforms to fall exactly into respective cups.

An injection molding station (100), first heating station (200), second heating station (300) and cooling/removing station (400) are located at the respective positions where the neck cavity molds (30) stops. The injection molding station injection molds a preform having a neck. The preform is sequentially conveyed the first and second heating stations (200,300) while being held by neck cavity molds at the neck. Each of the heating stations (200,300) heats the neck cavity molds (30) so that the neck of the preform is heated up to a temperature of crystallization. Thereafter, the cooling/removing station (400) cools the neck cavity molds. After the cooling step, the preforms are released and removed from the neck cavity molds (30). Thereafter, the neck cavity molds (30) are returned to the injection molding station (100).

After hollow preforms (175) with threaded neck portions (176) are molded within the cavities, the preforms are removed from the mold cavities, separated from the injection cores, and then shifted transversely by the split transfer molds (100) to cooling or blow cavities (40) defined by blow cavity inserts (38) within the stationary platen on opposite sides of the corresponding injection cavities. The transfer molds return to receive the injection cores, and corresponding blow core units (60) are inserted into the preforms within the blow cavities for pressurizing and expanding the preforms into firm contact with the blow inserts. The preforms are removed from the blow cavities by the blow cores on alternate cycles of press operation and are then released by retraction of the blow cores. The split transfer molds are shifted transversely in opposite directions and are opened and closed by a cam system (115, 152, 158) which includes cam tracks (117, 118, 121) mounted on the movable platen and incorporating cam track switches (122).
