Abstract:
The present invention describes a novel process for the conformal coating of polymer fibers on nonwoven substrates. This process is based on the modification of polymer fiber surfaces by controlling the degree of etching and oxidation, which improves adhesion of initiators to the surface and facilitates subsequent conformal polymer grafting. The modified fiber surfaces render new functionalities to the surface, such as increasing hydrophilicity, attaching ligands or changing surface energy. The invention includes the modified polymer fibers produced by the process described herein.
Abstract:
An item of footwear having a liquid-repelling polymeric coating, obtained by a plasma treatment process, provided over at least part of a surface thereof, said item also being provided at the region on the inside upon which the wearer's foot rests with a liquid-absorbing foot supporting footbed. Items of this type provide improved comfort for the wearer.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Absorbent articles and processes for making absorbent articles are provided. The process includes spraying onto a fibrous web a blend containing superabsorbent polymer particles, superabsorbent forming monomer, initiator and water, and subjecting the web to polymerization conditions. The resulting web is useful as an absorbent article particularly in disposable hygiene products.
Abstract:
A hydrophobic textile product of the present invention is obtained through graft polymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated organic acid. The textile product characterized by: a graft polymerization rate of about 8 wt% or more; substantially no agglutination of a byproduct polymer from the graft polymerization process; a hygroscopicity of about 2.5 wt% or more under a 20°C×65%RH environment: and an ammonia deodorizing property.
Abstract:
Aqueous solution of alkali or ammonium acrylate is applied to a prefabricated fibrous substrate, and the acrylate is subjected to polymerization in two steps, namely the first step in which the acrylate is polymerized by means of a radical polymerization initiator and the second step which is subsequent to the first step and in which the unpolymerized acrylate is polymerized by means of irradiation with electromagnetic radiation or corpuscular ionizing radiation.
