Systems and methods for creating fully custom products from scratch without exclusive use of off-the-shelf or pre-specified components. A system for creating custom products includes an image capture device for capturing image data and/or measurement data of a user. A computer is communicatively coupled with the image capture device and configured to construct an anatomic model of the user based on the captured image data and/or measurement data. The computer provides a configurable product model and enables preview and automatic or user-guided customization of the product model. A display is communicatively coupled with the computer and displays the custom product model superimposed on the anatomic model or image data of the user. The computer is further configured to provide the customized product model to a manufacturer for manufacturing eyewear for the user in accordance with the customized product model. The manufacturing system is configured to interpret the product model and prepare instructions and control equipment for the manufacturing of the customized product.

This disclosure concerns image quality assessment. In particular, there is described a computer implemented method, software, and computer for assessing the quality of an image. For example but not limited to, quality of the image of a face indicates the suitability of the image for use in face recognition. The invention comprises determining (112) a similarity of features of two or more sub-images of the image (608) to a model (412) of the object which is based on multiple training images (612) of multiple different objects of that type. The model (412) is comprised of sub-models (406) and each sub-model (406) corresponds to a sub-image of the image (608). Determining similarity is based on the similarity of features of each sub-image to features modelled by the corresponding sub-model. It is an advantage that no input parameters are required for quality assessment since the quality of the image can be determined from only the similarity between the image and the same, therefore single generic, model.

In this system for very low rate face image compression, the compression is obtained by decomposition of a digital face image over a redundant library of functions. The image is converted into a series of geometric function indexes, along with their respective coefficient tuples which may be used to reconstruct the compressed face image for display. The system includes a face model encoder (10), a matching pursuit encoder (13) fed with residual face image signals (14) delivered from a first output of said face model encoder (10) and giving MP-parameter signals (15) to a first input of a bit-stream generator (16) which delivers the desired bit-stream (17). A face recognition system and method project an input face image and a set of reference face images from an input space to a high dimensional feature space in order to obtain more representative features of the face images. The Kernel Fisherfaces of the input face image and the reference face images are calculated, and are used to project the input face image and the reference face images to a face image space lower in dimension than the input space and the high dimensional feature space. The input face image and the reference face images are represented as points in the face image space, and the distance between the input face point and each of the reference image points are used to determine whether or not the input face image resembles a particular face image of the reference face images.

Other algorithme can be based on affinity measure based on image gradient comparisons operating directly on die image gradients by comparing the magnitudes and orientations of the image gradient.
