摘要: A dual mode laser printer utilizes a program-controlled microprocessor to switch between a high resolution, slow speed mode and a low resolution, high speed mode. In the printer a laser beam is modulated at a rate which is a first division of a system clock rate. This beam is caused to focus on a recording medium and, due to a rotating multi-faceted polygon, the beam sweeps across the medium. The medium is moved according to a second division of the system clock. By means of the microprocessor, the printer can be in either: (1) the high resolution mode in which the laser beam is modulated at a high rate due to the first divided signal and the medium moves at a slow rate due to the second divided signal, or (2) the low resolution mode in which the light beam is modulated at a lower rate due to the first divided signal and the medium moves at a faster rate due to the second divided signal.

摘要: Documents (14) on a document tray (11) are transferred one by one, and an upper surface height of the documents is lowered to turn off a height detection sensor (31). Then, different kinds of control are performed according to a document scanning mode. In an image-quality-priority scanning mode, a transfer unit (48) suspends transfer of the document (14), the document tray (11) is elevated until the upper surface height reaches a target height that is higher by a predetermined distance after the height detection sensor (31) is turned on, and the transfer unit resumes the transfer of the document. In a speed-priority scanning mode, while the transfer of the document (14) is continued by the transfer unit (48), the document tray (11) is elevated until the document tray reaches the target height.

摘要: An image is generated by exposing the surface to a scanning laser beam in accordance with an image forming process. The intermediate image transfer member receives the image from the image carrying member and transfers it onto a recording sheet. The memory stores a plurality of values of process line speeds A for defining a speed of an image forming process in a sub-scanning direction, and a plurality of values of process line speeds B for defining a speed of the image transfer process. The controller makes a plurality of combinations of the process line speeds A and B by arbitrarily selecting one of the plurality of values of selectable process line speeds. According to another aspect, a voltage sensor detects a voltage of the photoconductor, a toner deposition sensor detects an amount of toner deposition on the photoconductor member, a charging member provides a charge onto the photoconductor, a grid adjusting member controls a grid voltage of the charging member, a laser exposure unit exposes the photoconductor to a laser beam, an exposure adjusting member adjusts an amount of a laser beam exposure, and a development gamma detect member detects a development gamma line by performing a sequential operation. A reference table includes information to determine appropriate voltage values of the photoconductor, a development bias and an after-exposure voltage of the photoconductor in accordance with the development gamma line obtained with the development gamma detect member. A controller detects the voltage of the photoconductor rotating in each of the process line speeds and determines optimum values of the grid voltage of the charging member and the amount of laser beam exposure from the laser exposure unit to obtain the respective required voltage level used by the grid adjusting member, and the after-exposure voltage used by the exposure adjusting member, on the basis of the detected voltage and with reference to the information included in the reference table.
