    摘要: A method and apparatus for placing sleeves on bottles and other objects is disclosed. In particular, a high speed method and apparatus having a plurality of sleeving stations for placing sleeves on bottles is disclosed. Each sleeving station includes a circularly arranged set of relatively movable parallel pins which are operable to contract or expand. A label transporter deposits a sleeve on the pins when they are contracted. The pins expand to stretch the sleeve. A bottle and the pins are then moved relative to one another to place the bottle inside the stretched sleeve. A gas flow is provided between the bottle and the sleeve to reduce friction. The sleeved bottle is then stripped from the pins. The method occurs without starts and stops by the bottle or the sleeve and is thus capable of very high production rates.

    摘要: A seamless tube (30) useful in making a roofing batten (20) is extruded from a polymeric material consisting essentially of a major amount of polyethylene terephthalate and a minor amount of at least one polyolefin, flattened in a vacuum sizer (120) so as to define two plies (34, 36), and milled and drawn so as to orient the polymeric material of the tube (30) longitudinally. As milled and drawn, the tube is oriented so as to have a tensile strength of at least substantially 25,000 psi (172 MPa) in a longitudinal direction. The plies (34, 36) are punched so as to have holes (38) therethrough at spaced intervals along the tube (30). When used to make a roofing batten to co-act with conventional fasteners, such as roofing screws, the tube exhibits superior characteristics of split resistance and pull-through resistance.

    摘要: For producing a bend or corner in a sealing strip 16, to match the shape of a bend or corner in its mounting flange, a portion of the sealing part 26 is removed between parts 26A and 26B, so as to produce a correspondingly shaped cut-out. The sealing strip is then placed within a mould cavity 54 which is curved to match the required configuration for the bend or corner and has an internal surface matching the external surface of the sealing part 26. A metal core 60, having a cross-sectional size matching that of the hollow interior of the sealing part 26, is placed in position within the cut-out by a swinging arm 58. Moulding then takes place whereafter arm 58 is swung outwards so as to withdraw core 60 (portion 26B has to be partially flattened to facilitate this). A small part D of the cut-out, which is blocked by, arm 58 during the moulding process, is left open. This is then closed off by a further injection moulding operation using a short core matching the cross-sectional shape of the core 60. This short core has a narrowed neck by means of which it can be pulled out of the sealing part 26B through a small hole in the sealing part which is thereafter closed by a grommet.
