A coating composition comprises a dispersion of fine particles of silica having a particle size of less than 300 nm, hydrophilic hydroxy-containing polymer, a first non-ionic surfactant comprising an alcohol containing perf luoroalkyl repeat units and ethylene oxide repeat units, and a second non-ionic surfactant selected from the group consisting of non-fluorine-containing surfactants that comprise a hydrophobic moiety and a hydrophilic moiety comprising hydroxy groups, wherein the hydroxy number of the second non-ionic surfactant is greater than 300. Also disclosed is an ink jet recording element so-coated. The invention can provide high image quality (reduced coalescence) of the inkjet recording element or increased stability of the coating composition.

A hydrophilic film forming composition including (A) a positively charged nitrogen atom-containing compound having a Log P of not more than 2; (B) a hydrolyzable silyl group-containing hydrophilic polymer; and (C) a metal complex catalyst. Coating compositions are provided which include a polysiloxane comprising at least one reactive functional group and at least one material comprising at least one reactive functional group. Also provided are multi-layer composite coatings formed from a basecoat deposited from a pigmented coating composition and a topcoat applied over the basecoat, the topcoat deposited from the aforementioned coating composition. A method for improving the scratch resistance of a coated substrate, as well as coated substrates also are provided. The compositions of the invention provide highly scratch resistant coatings, particularly highly scratch resistant color-plus-clearcoatings.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a method of coating a square wire capable of providing an insulated wire of a square wire that has a high dielectric breakdown voltage. A method of coating a square wire comprising a step of carrying out cationic electrodeposition on a square wire to form an insulating film thereon, by using a cationic electrocoating that stored in an electrocoating bath, wherein the shifting speed of the square wire in the electrocoating bath is set in a range from 1 to 80 m/min; the shortest distance from a liquid-contact portion of the square wire onto the cationic electrocoating to an electrode is set longer than 1/2 of the total shift distance of the square wire from the liquid-contact portion of the square wire to a liquid-separation portion in the electrocoating bath, the cationic electrocoating contains a resin composition of which a hydratable functional group is reduced directly by electrons and passivated, resulting in deposition of a film, and the cationic electrocoating contains crosslinked resin particles.

A curable, aqueous film-forming composition is provided that includes a polymeric binder comprising reactive functional groups, a crosslinking agent having at least two functional groups that are reactive with the functional groups of the polymeric binder, and a copolymer flow control agent comprising at least 30 mol % of residues containing alternating residues from a donor monomer and from an acceptor monomer. The copolymer contains at least 15 mol % of an isobutylene type donor monomer. A multi-component composite coating composition is also provided, comprising a base coat deposited from a pigmented film-forming composition and a transparent topcoat applied over the base coat. The topcoat is deposited from the film-forming composition described above.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to coatings that provide improved retort and tropical decay resistance for use on metal food containers. The coatings generally comprise a carbamated polyol formed by the reaction between a polyol, an alkylene oxide and an alkyl carbamate. A crosslinker reactive with the carbamate functionality is used to react with the carbamate moiety. Methods for improving retort resistance and resistance to tropical decay are also disclosed, as are substrates coated with the present compositions.
