A co-extrusion clip (120) is provided on the Z-beam (100), part of the co-extrusion clip (120) providing a color break and interlocks when the lid (24) is closed on the base (26). The blow molding process makes it possible to produce a hard-sided luggage article (20) with a trap-door lid (24). In this way, the parting line between the lid (24) and the base (26) does not extend around the entire sidewall of the case, thus providing a portion of the sidewall which can rest on the floor without the possibility of allowing leakage from a puddle, or the like, to infiltrate into the interior of the case.

A covering material (26, 28) is disposed over both the lid and base gusset, the lid and base gussets being joined by a zipper (30). One of the lid or base gussets includes an extension portion (40) or tongue which engages into a groove portion in the other of the lid or base gusset. In this way, unauthorized entry into the luggage article is resisted when the zipper is breached. Luggage cases of sewn fabric panels are old. These are cumbersome to manufacture, requiring many manual processes. A more advanced luggage case uses a shape retaining foam and fabric laminate to form major portions of the luggage case. This prior case still requires manual steps to apply shape stabilizing frame parts to the inside of the formed foam shell, and sewing to attach the slide fastener type closure around the perimeter of the shell. Disclosed is a process for forming a clamshell type luggage case (1) with an injection molded peripheral frame (5, 5') and a fabric panel for a broad face (3). The edges of the fabric panel are attached to the injection molded frame by an autogenous bond formed between the edge of the panel and the plastic frame during molding.
