An object is to provide a rail fracture detection device 5 capable of detecting a fracture of a rail in a track circuit without using train positional information. The rail fracture detection device 5 detects a rail fracture in a section provided with the track circuit by determining presence or absence of a rail fracture and determining presence or absence of a train on a rail by using information on whether a relay of the track circuit is activated or deactivated and information on a current value of current flowing in the track circuit. The rail fracture detection device 5 is preferably provided in a section including a curved portion or a section including a welded portion in which a rail fracture is more likely to occur.

The invention refers to both a machine and a method used to level, align and stabilise the track and compact the ballast bed, producing controlled lifting, so that the load used in the settlement of the rail in its theoretical position falls within the established range, working in an uninterrupted manner. In order to undertake this, the machine is constituted by two bogies with traction capacity (2), three control cabins: one at the front (3), one at the back (4) and one in the centre (5). There are two measuring tensioner trolleys, the rear one (10) and the frontal one (6). The machine has an additional lifting unit whose relative movement with the rest of the machine in controlled by the total longitudinal cylinder (11). The alignment cylinders (18) generate a transversal movement to cause track alignment. Behind this unit according to the direction of work (27) a stabilising unit is situated which consists of two stabilising trolleys (25 and 26). The ground-penetrating radar (28) is situated at the front of the machine. From this structuring of the machine, effective and precise levelling, alignment, compaction and stabilising of the track are achieved.

What is proposed is a method and a device for compacting the ballast bed of a track, in particular in the region of points, with a points-tamping machine (1) which is equipped with a tamping unit (4) and with a lifting/straightening device (2) for straightening the track level that comprises at least one roller tongs (6) and at least one lifting hook (7) and is guided on the machine frame (2) so as to be longitudinally displaceable in the machine longitudinal direction. In order to provide advantageous straightening conditions, it is proposed that a points component measuring unit (3) arranged upstream of the lifting/straightening device (2) in the working direction (C) is provided for position-dependent measuring of the position of points components.
