摘要: An apparatus and method for sorting animals includes a housing having a basket area and a measuring device. An entry gate is mounted to the housing and is moveable between open and closed positions. A sort gate is mounted to the housing and moveable between a first and a second position based on a measurement taken by the measuring device. A trainer gate is mounted to the housing and moveable through an operating position whereby the trainer gate contacts an animal in the basket area and urges the animal toward the sort gate. A programmable controller communicates with the measuring device, the entry gate, the sort gate and the trainer gate and controls actuation of the entry gate, the sort gate and the trainer gate.

摘要: An improved proximity switch (30) has been described. The proximity switch (30) includes control electronics (34) and a sensor (32) . The sensor (32) is remotely mounted from the control electronics (34) and is coupled to it via a wire (33) connection. The switch (30) is more economical to manufacture due to its novel arrangement. The control electronics (34) and the sensor (32) may each be provided with a heating element (36). The heating elements keep the electronics (34) and the sensor (32) warm and prevent moisture from condensing on the electronics (34) and the sensor (32).

摘要: A pressure regulator (10) for a drinking system for birds or other animals that includes a housing (28) and first and second engaging members (100 and 102) for engaging the elongated supports (14) for the fluid supply conduit (12) of the drinking system. The first engaging member (100) includes a pair of ends, each end including a plurality of flexible fingers (112) extending generally parallel to the fluid supply conduit (12). The second engaging members (102) are adapted to engage the flanges (18) of the elongated supports (14). The pressure regulator (10) includes a valve element (30) and the housing (28) desirably defines a valve bore (52) for receiving the valve element (30). The valve element (30) desirably includes a circular seal having a peripheral edge (204) that extends radially inwardly and that includes a lip (210) for sealing the valve bore (52) when the valve element (30) is in the closed position. Desirably, the housing (28) includes a central portion (50) that defines a central channel (66) having a larger diameter than a fluid inlet channel (54) defined by the housing (28), and an air exhaust port (220) associated with the central portion (50) for exhausting air trapped within the central portion (50). The housing (28) also desirably is configured to facilitate quick and easy removal and replacement of the seal (152). The pressure regulator (10) may be used in connection with poultry houses having sloped floors.

The feed opening (30) can be adjusted in size by either adjusting the wing members (22) relative to the pan member (26) or by sliding and adjustably positioning the cone member (24) relative to the feeder tube (20) and the wing members (22).

摘要: A feed conveyor (22) for delivering feed (24) to poultry cages (30), floor animals or the like includes a continuous trough member (40, 42) for holding the feed (24); a continuous spring element (28) which is disposed within and throughout the trough member (40, 42), and a driving mechanism (90) which moves the spring element (28) along the trough member (40, 42) to move the feed (24) through the trough member (40, 42) to deliver the feed (24) to the poultry cages (30), floor animals or the like. The spring element (28) is a substantially planar, tortuous member (92), which is made of a suitable material such as high tensile steel, and which is disposed in a lower portion of the trough member. Preferably, the spring element lays along the bottom (72) of a generally flat-bottomed trough member (40, 42). The driving mechanism (90), which may take the form of a mechanically driven sprocket (96), moves the spring element (28) along the bottom (72) of and through the trough member (40, 42) to move the feed (24) through the trough member (40, 42) to the various poultry cages (30), floor animals or the like.

摘要: A poultry feeder assembly (22) for use with an automated conveyor-type feed system. The feeder assembly is inexpensive to manufacture and comprises only two assembly pieces which are formed of a resilient, flexible material allowing for easy assembly and adjustment without tool or implement. Multi-stage incremental positioning provided between a dome/feeder-tube combination (30, 24) and a pan member (28) allows feeding of brood through pre-harvest sized foul and renders the feeder assembly adaptable for use with feeds having varying flow characteristics.
