    摘要: An aircraft altimeter has a planar transmit antenna 2 and receive antenna 3 on the same substrate separated by about 150mm. An oscillator 20 supplies microwave energy in the G-band to the transmit antenna via a pulse modulated amplifier 21. The oscillator also supplies an output via a phase shifter 23 to one input of a mixer 24 the other input of which is supplied with the received signals from the receive antenna 3. The phase shifter 23 is controlled to adjust the phase of the signal supplied to the mixer 24 from the oscillator 20 so that it cancels out the leakage signal caused by direct coupling between the transmit and receive antennas 2 and 3.

    摘要: Opposite ends of a fibre-optic cable have terminations 4 and 5 including a metal diaphragm 53 which is welded or brazed at its outer edge to the termination. The diaphragm 53 has a central aperture 54 into which extends the ends of a bundle 1 of optical fibres 2, the fibres being hermetically sealed together at their end and sealed in the aperture by a glass seal 55. The diaphragm 53 tapers in thickness from its outer edge to its central aperture where it is thinner and is flexible to accommodate relative displacement between the fibre bundle 1 and the sheath 3 of the cable.

    摘要: An hydraulic valve assembly controls the supply of hydraulic fluid to an hydraulic strut 3 of a vehicle suspension 30 and is formed in a valve block (10) having an hydraulic delivery line 101 between a pump delivery port 100 and the strut via a check valve 102 which allows flow in one direction only from the pump 2 to the strut. Three parallel hydraulic lines 105, 106 and 107 connect the delivery line 101 to a fluid return line 142. One line 105 has a relief valve 109 that only opens if there is excess pressure in the delivery line 101. Another line 106 has a series connection of a solenoid-operated pressurizing valve 110 and a pressure-sensing valve 111. Both valves 110 and 111 are normally open, the soleneid-operated valve being closed when the suspension 30 becomes too low, and the pressure-sensing valve 111 closing when pressure at the strut port 103 falls. The other hydraulic line 107 includes a normally-closed solenoid-operated depressurizing valve 113 and a normally-­open relief valve 114. The depressurizing valve 113 is opened when the suspension becomes too high, the relief valve 114 closing when pressure falls to a minimum safe level for the strut 3.

    摘要: An autoclave 1 has a water level sensor 20 in a water reservoir 5 in the pressure vessel 2. An external water tank 21 is connected to the reservoir via an electrically-operated valve 23. An electrical resistance heating element 6 in the reservoir 5 heats the sensor 20 if it indicates a full level at the start of operation, in order to dry any exposed part of the sensor and thereby prevent an erroneous output from the sensor caused by water clinging to it. This heating of the sensor can be repeated if it continues to indicate a full level. If a low level output is produced by the sensor 20, the valve 23 is opened to allow water to flow from the tank 21 to the reservoir 5. If the valve 23 remains open for longer than a predetermined time without the sensor indicating a full level, the autocalve produces a fault signal.

    摘要: A sleeve bearing for a motor has a lubricant reservoir (16) formed by a high temperature resistant lubricant absorbed into a felt pad. An annular wall (15) extends axially of the motor and supports a part of the reservoir externally of the wall. Four imperforate channels (31 to 34) extend along the internal surface of the wall, tapering so that they are deeper adjacent the sleeve bearing where they open into the reservoir. The width of the channels is about 33% the total circumference of the wall. An O-ring (29) embracing the shaft (2) within the wall throws oil outwardly onto the wall so that it flows along the grooves into the reservoir. A PTFE washer (25) with a grooved surface is mounted on the shaft on the opposite side of the bearing.

An oil seal (40, 50) of a high temperature resistant rubber is located below each bearing within an annular wall (15) that extends axially of the motor shaft (2). Wings (41 to 44) on the oil seal project into grooves (31 to 34) in the wall to prevent rotation of the seal. Each seal has an annular nib (46 and 47, 51 and 52) at each end that engage the shaft, forming a rotational seal which impedes downward flow of lubricant along the shaft. A groove (48, 53, 54) extends coaxially around one or both of the nibs to increase its flexibility.

    摘要: A medical suction pump has a fluid collection jar 1 and a diaphragm pump 2. The pump 2 has a lower rigid plate 20 that is sealed at its edge to the jar, and an upper flexible plate 31 which is coupled to a drive unit 40 and which can be detached from the lower plate so that the lower plate and jar 1 can be disposed of, whilst the upper plate is retained with the drive unit. In one arrangement, the pump 2 has one-way valves 27 and 36 which enable it to create a reduced gas pressure in the jar so that fluid is drawn into the jar without passing through the pump chamber 39. In another arrangement, the fluid is pumped through the pump chamber (39′). In this arrangement the upper plate (31′) is preferably disposed of with the lower plate and the suction jar which could be a flexible bag (1′).
