The invention relates to an anti-avalanche clothes which can be worn by the persons, and is constituted preferably but not within limits by a short jacket provided with inflatable elements adapted to deaden the blows, and to defend the face in case of fall of avalanches, and also to maintain an air quantity enough to let the buried person to survive for a longer duration, until the help arrival. This is obtained by providing a short jacket (10) with air-bags or cushions (17,18) which can be inflated by a suitable control or automatically, which are adapted to increase the virtual volume of the person being buried, in a manner that such volume be able to protect the head and ensure a space for making available a greater air quantity so as to guarantee a longer survival time. Finally, the coupling of this clothes with a radio turned on by the air-bag operating system will make easier the helps for finding the unlucky person. Finally, a progressive slow deflation of the cushions will allow the unlucky person to recover spaces for the movement, so as to be able to actuate a small cordless telephone or to attempt to reach the outer air.

A garment, provided with at least one inflatable protecting device, adapted to be worn by a person travelling on a moving means, comprises a radio receiver (34, 35), a trigger circuit (33) and non-volatile memories (32, 37). A programmable logic unit (31) interfacing with the radio receiver (35) and communicating with remote radio transmitters (24, 25) mounted on a moving means through an identification code, manages and stores in the memories (37) the identification codes detected by the radio receiver (35). The wearer of the garment can in this way select, via an interface (40), a code among those available in the memory (37). Use: actuation of air bags incorporated in the garment in case of detection of an accident. Advantages: management of the mutual electronic recognition of the garment and the moving means.

Mit dem Aufprallsensor als Beschleunigungssensor sind sowohl Beschleunigungen in horizontaler als auch vertikaler Richtung messbar. Die elektronischen bzw. elektrischen Komponenten der Vorrichtung sind vorwiegend auf einer flexiblen Leiterplatte angeordnet.

A protective system including a garment-shaped inflatable member for surrounding at least upper portions of the body of a rider of a non-enclosed vehicle and including at least a first inflatable portion for covering and protecting front and rear portions of the body and at least a second inflatable portion for covering and temporarily immobilizing at least the rider's upper spine, a source of pressurized gas incorporated in the inflatable member, and means for exposing the interior of the inflatable member to the pressurized gas source for rapidly inflating the inflatable member in response to a sudden separation of the rider from the vehicle by at least a predetermined distance. The means for exposing includes a connector for selectably connecting and disconnecting the inflatable member and the vehicle including a frangible element, wherein, in response to a sudden separation of the rider from the vehicle operative to apply at least a predetermined force to the connector, the connector is operative to transmit the force, first, to the gas release means so as to cause operation thereof so as to inflate the inflatable member, and subsequently, to the frangible element, thereby to cause disengagement thereof from the vehicle, thereby permitting disconnection of the inflatable member from the vehicle, gas release means associated with the pressurized gas, and electromechanical operating means associated with the gas release means and the connector, including mechanical means responsive to a sudden separation of the rider from the vehicle by at least a predetermined distance to actuate means for providing voltage to activate the gas release means so as to inflate the inflatable member and so as also to disconnect the inflatable member from the vehicle. In particular, the inflatable member has a garment-shaped configuration when in a non-inflated orientation, and when inflated, has an expanded, generally rounded configuration such that large magnitude concentrated forces experienced thereby on impact with an object subsequent to the sudden separation of the rider from the vehicle are prevented from transfer directly to the rider, thereby protecting the surrounded upper portions of the rider's body from serious injury.

The invention is a self-contained protective device/system (12) designed to protect the hips, pelvis, buttocks, and coccyx areas. The device (12) may be worn outside of the clothing, and because it is small in size and lightweight, it may be easily put on and removed and does not interfere with body movements. It contains the following components: an inflatable air bag folded into pleats (22), a battery (42), a gas source (3), sensors to determine angular motion and acceleration (32), a triggering/valve mechanism to release the gas (34) and a relief valve (36). When the user falls, the sensors automatically release gas from the cartridge and inflate the air bag assembly, forcing the folded pleats to fully cover said areas. After use the relief valve is opened to release air from the air bag assembly, the pleats are reinserted into the system and the invention is ready for reuse after the spent cartridge is replaced.

Should an accident occur and the motorcyclist were to be thrown clear, the cords are tensed and fly off the jacket, triggering the small bottles' safety catches which causes the jacket to automatically inflate and protect the motorcyclist in his fall. Inside air escape valves (7) have been provided allowing air to escape proportionally to the impact received and thus providing a cushioning effect. This invention may be adapted to conventional motorcyclist garments already existing in the market place.
