Described is a curable powder coating composition that provides a durable decorative wrinkle finish after curing, as well as a method of coating a substrate and a substrate so coated. The powder coating composition includes a specific triazine-type amino resin crosslinking agent, a hydroxyl functional resin and an amine blocked non-halogenated sulfonic acid catalyst.

A method of preparing a multilayer coating is described. The method comprises the steps of:
(1) applying onto a substrate a first curable coating composition comprising two components that are reactive with one another to form urethane linkages and a third component that includes one or more epoxy groups, (2) curing the first curable coating composition to form a cured coating, (3) applying a second curable coating composition onto the surface of the coating from step (2), and (4) curing the second curable coating composition.

Non-aqueous paints contain (A) a hydroxyl group-containing synthetic resin or a mixture of hydroxyl group-containing synthetic resins; (B) an aminoplastic resin or a mixture of aminoplastic resins; (C) a blocked polyisocyanate or a mixture of blocked polyisocyanates; and (D) a pigment or a mixture of pigments. These paints are characterised in that the component (C) contains isocyanate groups blocked both with a blocking agent (I) and with a blocking agent (II). The blocking agent (I) is a dialkyl malonate or a mixture of dialkyl malonates and the blocking agent (II) is a blocking agent different from (I) or an oxime containing active methylene groups or a mixture of said blocking agents. The equivalent ratio between the isocyanate groups blocked with (I) and the isocyanate groups blocked with (II) lies between 1.0: 1.0 and 9.0: 1.0.

A color-plus-clear coating system is disclosed. A pigmented or colored basecoat is first applied to a substrate followed by the application of a transparent topcoat to the basecoat. The transparent topcoat composition is a crosslinkable composition comprising (1) a material containing a plurality of carbamate and/or urea functional groups and (2) an aminoplast crosslinking agent. The topcoat composition provides a composite coating with improved acid etch resistance, making the composite coating particularly useful as an automotive topcoat.

The film-forming composition is a crosslinkable composition comprising (1) a material containing a plurality of carbamate and/or urea functional groups and (2) an aminoplast crosslinking agent.
