The image forming apparatus includes a paper delivery section (4) for guiding paper (P) to a space between a photoreceptor (31) and a transferring corona discharger (34), the paper (P) being guided as turned over after having passed between a pair of arcuate reversing guides (44a), (44b). A portion of the paper delivery section (4) is formed as a unit (U) which can be integrally pulled out from the body (1) of the apparatus. The apparatus further includes guide lifting and lowering means (B) adapted to retreat downward the inner reversing guide (44a) out of the pair of reversing guides (44a), (44b) in association with a unit (U) pulling operation, and adapted to lift up the inner reversing guide (44a) in association with a unit (U) insertion operation. Accordingly, when the unit (U) is inserted in and pulled out from the apparatus body (1), the guide lifting and lowering means (B) vertically moves the inner reversing guide (44a), thus preventing the inner reversing guide (44a) from coming into collision with the photoreceptor (31). The pair of reversing guides (44a), (44b) may be widely opened, facilitating a jam processing therebetween.
