Development systems and methods for developing using toner are disclosed. The present invention further discloses developers used in development systems. With respect to the development system, a development system is disclosed which includes a supply of dry developer mixture which contains toner particles and hard magnetic carrier particles. The development system further includes a non-magnetic, cylindrical shell for transporting the developer between the supply and the development zone, wherein the shell can be rotatable or stationary. A rotating magnetic core of a pre-selected magnetic field strength and means for rotating at least the magnetic core to provide for the transport of the toner particles from the shell to an electrostatic image also provided as part of the development system. The development system of the present invention further includes a fuser roll which is coated with a silicone rubber or other low surface energy elastomer or resin. The fuser roll is preferably in a pressure contact arrangement with a backup or pressure roll. The images resulting from the development system of the present invention have an excellent combination of properties, in particular, the prints resulting from the development process of the present invention have improved image quality in combination with excellent fusing quality. A method for developing electrostatic images with toner is further disclosed, for example, involving the above-described development system.

A resin-coated ferrite carrier having a uniform resin coating and emitting no offensive odors, etc., its production method, and an electrophotographic developer which comprises the resin-coated ferrite carrier, is excellent in the charge stability and image quality stability over a long period, causes less fogging of image or carrier adhesion, is favorable in the image density and environmental dependency, and can fully respond to high-speed and full-color imaging, are provided. The resin-coated ferrite carrier for the electrophotographic developer is characterized in that the surface of ferrite particles is coated with a mixed resin of a tetrafluoroethylene-hexafluoropropylene copolymer or a tetrafluoroethylene-perfluoroalkylvinyl ether copolymer and a polyamideimide resin, and that the mixed resin contains a silicon oxide.

A developer may be produced including the toner and optionally a carrier. If a carrier is included, the carrier preferably exhibits a resistivity of greater than 1×10 7 ohm-cm. An electrophotographic machine includes the toner exhibiting high resistivity.

The present invention also provides a two-component developer: comprising the toner and a magnetic carrier comprising magnetic core particles coated by a coating layer; and has a number average particle diameter of 15 - 80 µm. Using the toner and the two-component developer enables a high-quality image to be formed at a high speed even in an oilless fixing system.

A magnetic carrier includes a magnetic material-dispersed resin core containing at least a magnetic material and a binder resin. The surface of the magnetic material-dispersed resin core is coated with a coating material containing at least a fluorine resin and 1 to 40 parts by weight of fine particles based on 100 parts by weight of the fluorine resin. The coating material is in an amount of 0.3 to 4.0 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the magnetic material-dispersed resin core. The magnetic carrier has a contact angle of 95 to 125°. A two-component developer is also provided which makes use of the magnetic carrier.

A carrier composition is provided for electrophotographic development. Core particles are coated with a graft copolymer of a fluoropolymer and methyl methacrylate. The core particles preferably are a material selected from steel, nickel, iron, ferrites, passivated iron, or mixtures or alloys thereof. The fluoropolymer preferably is a polymer selected from chlorotrifluoroethylene, polyvinylidene fluoride, polytrifluoroethylene, polytetrafluoroethylene, copolymers of vinylidene fluoride and hexafluoropropylene, and copolymers of vinylidene fluoride and tetrafluoroethylene. In a preferred carrier composition, the coating consists of two layers. The exterior layer is a graft copolymer made of a fluoropolymer and methyl methacrylate.

A carrier for developing an electrostatic latent image, which carrier comprises core particles having formed thereon a resin coating layer, in which the resin coating layer comprises a fluorine-containing resin and a second resin having a softening point lower than that of the fluorine-containing resin, and the resin and the second resin each are partially exposed on the surface of said resin coating layer. The carrier may be produced by a process comprising the steps of: dry-blending core particles, a fluorine-containing resin, and a second resin having a softening point lower than that of said fluorine-containing resin; and melting the resin blend to coat said core particles. The carrier is excellent in stability with time and environmental changes, causes no adhesion, and is less consumed.
