A congeneric process and/or a congeneric toner is preserved with regard to its metallic hue and at the same time not to impair the essential properties of the toner for the printing process in which it is to be used. At least one metallic pigment is provided with a coating of silicate and subsequently with an organic layer containing a charge control agent and optionally a colorant and combining the thus obtained particle with toner material.

The invention describes a method to control differential gloss of high-density halftone areas. It is an objective of this invention to provide a method that allows producing digital watermarks on paper without being limited in area density, in the gloss properties of the toner, the paper or/and in the selected fusing technology. The present invention relates to a method producing high-density watermarks using Glossmark technology. Glossmark technology is for controlling the differential gloss of an image using the steps selecting a first halftone image having a first anisotropic structure, selecting a second halftone image having a second structure different from that of the first halftone, applying the first halftone to at least some portion of the halftone image and applying the second halftone to another portion of the halftone image.

An electrostatographic toner composition consists essentially of noncrosslinked linear polymeric toner particles, about 0.7wt.% to about 4 wt.% of hydrophobic silica particles disposed on the surface of the toner particles, and about 0.1 wt.% to about 2 wt.% of particles of a fatty acid metal salt disposed on the surface of the toner particles, wherein the weight percentages of the hydrophobic silica particles and the particles of a fatty acid metal salt are based on the weight of the polymeric toner particles. An electrostatographic developer is formed by mixing the toner composition so prepared with hard magnetic carrier particles. A process for forming an electrostatographic toner composition comprises: providing noncrosslinked polymeric toner particles of a selected particle size, and dry blending the polymeric toner particles with a mixture consisting essentially of about 0.7 wt.% to about 4 wt.% of hydrophobic silica particles and about 0.1 wt.% to about 2 wt.% of particles of a fatty acid metal salt, thereby forming a toner composition wherein the silica and fatty acid metal salt particles are disposed on the surface of the toner particles.

Development systems and methods for developing using toner are disclosed. The present invention further discloses developers used in development systems. With respect to the development system, a development system is disclosed which includes a supply of dry developer mixture which contains toner particles and hard magnetic carrier particles. The development system further includes a non-magnetic, cylindrical shell for transporting the developer between the supply and the development zone, wherein the shell can be rotatable or stationary. A rotating magnetic core of a pre-selected magnetic field strength and means for rotating at least the magnetic core to provide for the transport of the toner particles from the shell to an electrostatic image also provided as part of the development system. The development system of the present invention further includes a fuser roll which is coated with a silicone rubber or other low surface energy elastomer or resin. The fuser roll is preferably in a pressure contact arrangement with a backup or pressure roll. The images resulting from the development system of the present invention have an excellent combination of properties, in particular, the prints resulting from the development process of the present invention have improved image quality in combination with excellent fusing quality. A method for developing electrostatic images with toner is further disclosed, for example, involving the above-described development system.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Fixierung von Toner auf einem Träger bzw. einem Bedruckstoff, insbesondere einem blattförmigen Bedruckstoff, vorzugsweise für eine digitale Druckmaschine, daß dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß der Toner aufweisende Bedruckstoff mit Mikrowellen aus wenigstens einem Mikrowellensender bestrahlt und für das Schmelzen des Toners erhitzt wird und daß ein Toner verwendet wird, der einen starken Abfall des elastischen Moduls G' von seinem festen zu seinem flüssigen Zustand beim Erhitzen zeigt. Vorzugsweise beträgt das Verhältnis des Wertes des elastischen Moduls G' des erfindungsgemäßen Toners bei dem Referenztemperaturwert, errechnet aus der Anfangstemperatur beim Beginn des Glasübergangs des Toners plus 50°C, zu dem Wert des elastischen Moduls G' bei der Anfangstemperatur selbst -5 . Des weiteren betrifft die Erfindung eine Einrichtung zur Fixierung von Toner, vorzugsweise zur Durchführung des genannten Verfahrens, mit wenigstens einem Mikrowellen abgebenden Sender.
