Carbon monoxide is separated from a gaseous mixture (1) containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide and contaminated with nitrogen by partially condensing (H201 & H202) the mixture to provide a hydrogen-enriched vapour feed fraction (5) and a carbon monoxide-enriched liquid feed fraction (3); separating nitrogen from carbon monoxide in said liquid fraction in a distillation column (V205) to provide nitrogen-freed liquid carbon monoxide bottoms (42) and nitrogen-enriched vapour overheads (43); condensing (H204) at least a portion of said overheads (43) against a recycle heat pump stream (34) derived from said gaseous mixture (1) and containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide; and returning at least a portion of said condensed overheads to said nitrogen-separation column (V205) as reflux. The recycle heat pump stream (34) usually is provided by condensation (H203) from the hydrogen-enriched vapour feed fraction (5) and/or by separation (V203) from the carbon monoxide-enriched liquid feed fraction (3).

Hydrogen and carbon monoxide are separated from a condensate-containing gaseous mixture thereof by using (a) a("first") stripping column (8) to remove the hydrogen content of the CO-loaded methane stream (6) obtained by washing CO from the gaseous mixture, or the vapour portion from a phase separation thereof, ascending a methane wash column (2) and (b) a ("second") stripping column or a flash separator (30) to remove the hydrogen content of the feed gas condensate (9) obtained from the methane wash column (2), or the phase separation. The vapour stream (32) from the second stripping column or flash separator (30) is fed to the first stripping column (8). The liquid stream from the first stripping column and the liquid stream (33) from the second stripping column or flash separator (30) are fed (16, 17 , 19 & 20; 34 to 39) to different locations of a separation column (18) providing a gaseous carbon monoxide product stream (21) and a liquid methane wash recycle stream (3). The process improves the efficiency of the separation by avoiding dilution of the CO concentration of the feed gas condensate (9) with the CO-loaded methane stream (6) which occurs in prior art CO/hydrogen separations using a methane wash.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Gewinnung von ultrareinem Stickstoff durch Tieftemperaturzerlegung von Luft in einem Rektifiziersystem mit wenigstens einer Rektifiziersäule, wobei verdichtete und gereinigte Einsatzluft in eine Drucksäule geführt, aus der Drucksäule eine sauerstofffreie Druckstickstofffraktion gewonnen, in eine Niederdrucksäule geführt und in der Niederdrucksäule kohlenmonoxidfreier Niederdruckstickstoff als Kopfgas gewonnen wird. Erfindungsgemäß wird die sauerstofffreie Druckstickstofffraktion (1) entweder aus einem oberen Bereich der Drucksäule flüssig entnommen oder aus einem Flüssigkeitstank (22) mit gespeichertem sauerstofffreiem Stickstoff bereitgestellt und die sauerstofffreie Druckstickstofffraktion (1) in die in ihrem Sumpf beheizte Niederdrucksäule (2) entspannt. Hierbei wird in der Niederdrucksäule (2) aufsteigender Dampf gebildet und mit Hilfe eines am Kopf der Niederdrucksäule (2) aufgegebenen Rücklaufes mit ultrareinem Stickstoff von Kohlenmonoxid befreit, am Kopf der Niederdrucksäule (2) als kohlenmonoxidfreies Kopfgas (5) abgezogen und nach einer Druckerhöhung (5) teilweise verflüssigt. Der verflüssigte Teil (17, 18) wird in eine in ihrem Sumpf beheizte He-Ne-H 2 -Säule (4) entspannt, aus der der ultrareine Stickstoff (19) flüssig entnommen wird.
