Provision is made according to the invention for at least a region of the piston blank (1') to be plastically deformed shortly before or after abutment, such that the collar (9) and the abutment region (11) are connected together so as to be detachable to a limited extent or non-detachable, with the result that a completely closed cooling duct (3) is formed. Furthermore, the invention relates to a cooling duct piston (1).
