摘要: A method of creating a piston crown is disclosed. The method includes the step of providing a billet and then upsetting the billet in a first station to generally decrease a length of the billet and generally increase a cross section of the billet. The billet is then pre-formed in a second station into an intermediate configuration of a piston crown, where the piston crown is in a preliminary shape. The first station and the second station are separate components. The intermediate configuration of the piston crown is formed into a final shape of the piston crown, where the final shape includes a predetermined volume. The piston crown is then precision formed into a near net shaped configuration, where the near net shaped configuration of the piston crown includes a near net shaped volume. The predetermined volume may be approximately equal to the near net shaped volume.

摘要: A half bearing and a method of manufacture of a half bearing are described. The half bearing 100 comprises a bearing member 102 having a strong external backing layer of steel or bronze 104 and an internal bearing lining layer 106 of a suitable bearing alloy with an optional bearing overlay layer (not shown) defining a concave substantially semi-cylindrical bearing surface 112 extending between first and second axial ends 110A, 110B of the half bearing 100. The bearing lining layer 106 is provided with at least first and second polymer seals 108A, 108B at or adjacent to the first and second axial ends 110A, 110B. The first and second polymer seals 108A, 108B project from and are formed directly on the bearing lining layer 106 and extend at least partially circumferentially across the bearing lining layer 106. The bearing member 102 has joint faces 113A, 113B, which locate with corresponding joint faces of a further half bearing to form a 360° bearing assembly.

摘要: A connecting rod and methods for making the same are disclosed. A method of making a connecting rod may include joining a first connecting rod blank and a second connecting rod blank together. The first connecting rod blank includes a first material, while the second connecting rod blank includes a second material different from the first material. The first and second connecting rod blanks have an interface between the piston pin and crankshaft ends. The method further includes narrowing a cross-section of the blanks at the interface, forming a piston pin aperture in the first connecting rod blank, and forming a crankshaft pin aperture in the second connecting rod blank. At least one of the narrowing and forming steps works a perimeter of the interface, thereby forming a generally smooth connecting rod surface about the perimeter of the interface.
