The assembly also includes a driven cutter wheel arranged separately from the slitting means which receives the continuous web after it has been slit, cuts, crimps and scores the web in the transverse direction at selected intervals. An endless transfer belt is mounted on the cutter wheel and is driven by the wheel whereby the web is transferred in the machine direction.

A method of processing and packaging a photographic film in which the whole process starting with preparation of long film blank in a base magazine (41) to the loading in a cartridge is conducted without taking any intermediate rolling step. The film is sliced and the sliced film (11) is continuously processed by a printer (45), perforating device (44), sizing cutter (48), and rolling chute conveyor (49). The whole process is divided into a suitable number of steps by intermediate partitions (62a, 62b, 62c, 62d) to form independent dark room or dark section (63m , 63n) covered by a light shielding cover (65), so that the exposure of the film can be avoided even if the other sections are held in a bright state.

Separation cutter (48) for sheets (49) printed from a continuous paper web (50) provides multiple longitudinal divisions (56-1,3) of different working sections with a series of single or side by side sheets. The sheets have respective print areas with texts and/or images, while the cutter includes margining knives (78l,r) and longitudinal dividing knives (79-1,3) and an electronic control unit (72). The cutter operates with webs in which, at the beginning of each working section, a printed image mark (Print Mark) is placed at a predetermined transverse distance of the print areas and automatically sets margins (54l,r) and division cuts (56-1,3) based on data from a corresponding working section. The cutter also includes servo mechanisms (111l,r and 116-118) for shifting the margining and longitudinal dividing knives and a sensor (76) with transverse scanning for the Print Mark. In response to data from a new working section, the electronic unit activates the servo mechanisms by positioning the knives in corresponding transversal positions based on the data from the new working section and referencing the transverse position of the Print Mark.
