A semiconductor nanoparticle characterized by comprising electron-donating groups disposed on the core surface of the semiconductor nanoparticle and by having fluorescence characteristics and water solubility is disclosed. A water-soluble semiconductor nanoparticle having excellent fluorescence characteristics which can be easily prepared by adding a surface treatment material, which provides the semiconductor nanoparticle with electron-donating groups of one or more kinds, and thereby disposing the electron-donating groups on the core surface of the semiconductor nanoparticle is also disclosed.
