The phosphor according to the present invention comprises an inorganic compound in whcih element A (A is one or two or more kinds of elements selected from Mn, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Tb, Dy, and Yb) is solid solved in an inorganic crystal including at least metal element M and non-metal element X and represented by M n X n+1 (3≤n≤5), an inorganic crystal having the same crystal structure, or an inorganic crystal including a solid solution thereof. Here, M comprises at least Al and Si, and if necessary element L (L is a metal element other than Al and Si) and X comprises N, O if necessary, and element Z if necessary (Z is a non-metal element other than N and O).

A first photo-luminescent material has a peak emission at a wavelength that is within 55 nanometers of the peak wavelength of the light emitted from the LED. A second photo-luminescent material has a peak emission at a wavelength greater than 650 nanometers. A third photo-luminescent material has a peak emission at a wavelength that is more than 20 nanometers greater than the peak emission wavelength of the first photo-luminescent material. A fourth photo-luminescent material has a peak emission at a wavelength that is at least 20 nanometers less than the second photo-luminescent material.

Provided is a light emitting device with effectively improved color rendering properties. A light emitting device (1) includes: a light source (2) that emits light having the maximum intensity at a predetermined wavelength; a first phosphor (yellow phosphor) (51) that absorbs the light emitted by the light source (2) and outputs fluorescent light having the maximum intensity at a first wavelength which is longer than the predetermined wavelength; and a second phosphor (red phosphor) (52) that absorbs the light emitted by the light source (2) and outputs fluorescent light having the maximum intensity at a second wavelength which is longer than the first wavelength. An absolute value of wavelength dependency of an optical absorption rate of the second phosphor (52) at the first wavelength is set to not more than 0.6%/nm. Accordingly, the color rendering properties of the light emitted by the light emitting device (1) can be effectively improved.
