摘要： The invention is a self-cleaning head assembly characterized by one or more raised head islands (20) with convex top surfaces (21) and sloped sides (23, 24), and designed to be used with a recording medium (10) which wraps each island. The machined radius of curvature of the top surface is not less than half the natural curvature of the tape, and the running radius of the head is approximately equal to the natural curvature of the medium. A steep angle of approach (Φ) between tape and head provides cleaning action, while the small top surface reduces errors due to lift-off and provides superior electrical contact.

摘要： Static electric charge build-up is eliminated in tape cassettes having a housing with a take-off spool and a take-up spool for magnetic tape mounted in the housing. First and second tape guide support pins (11, 12) are mounted in the housing on the take-off spool side. A stationary metal guide sleeve (13) is disposed on the first pin (11) and an electrically conductive plastic guide roller (16) is rotatably mounted on the second pin (12). The magnetic tape path through the cassette housing is such that the back side of the tape engages the metal guide sleeve (13) and the magnetic coating side of the tape is against the plastic guide roller (16). A smooth flat metal member (17) is mounted for electrical contact against adjacent ends of the metal sleeve (13) and the plastic roller (16) to complete an electric path therebetween. This cancels the electrostatic charges on the plastic roller (16) and the magnetic coating of the tape.

The pad (100) is concentric with the spindle axis (80) and forms an air-tight seal at the edge of a circular opening (12a) in the lower casing (12) that prevents dust from entering the housing. The base plate (32) has a circular platform portion with the hub (36) for the spindle shaft (80) being formed at its center. The circular form of the opening and platform portion are such that any temperature differential across the lower housing induces an oil-canning type of deformation in the base plate (32) so that the spindle (80) does not tilt relative to the plane of motion of the transducers.

摘要： A simple and inexpensive apparatus for treating a floppy disk (22) with conditioning fluid in order to clean, lubricate and destaticize the floppy disk is described. The apparatus (20) comprises a means for grasping the floppy disk about its center and rotating it, fluid absorbing pads (56) which are moveable into and out of contact with the magnetic surfaces of the floppy disk (22) through the read/write opening (28) in the floppy disk envelope (24) by mechanical means and a means for dispensing fluid to the pads. In one preferred embodiment, the mechanical rotation of a lever (108) causes the floppy disk (22) to be grasped and released through the cooperation of an axial cam (54) and a pin (50) riding on the cam. Rotation of the lever (108) also moves the pads (56) into and out of contact with the floppy disk (22). In a second preferred embodiment, a timer provided with a gear wheel controls an axial cam for grasping and releasing the floppy disk and a radial cam which moves the pads (56) into and out of contact with the floppy disk (22).
