On peut éliminer efficacement l'arsenic élément délétère de boues d'hydroxyde de fer, d'abord en soumettant ladite boue à un traitement thermique en présence d'air ou d'oxygène et d'un réactif alcalin, puis par extraction de la matière traitée à l'aide d'eau. L'arsenic présent dans l'extrait est ensuite adsorbé dans un échangeur anionique, élué à l'aide d'un liquide alcalin aqueux et précipité sous forme de sel à partir dudit liquide. La boue résiduelle est plus adaptée pour un réemploi ou pour une application utile. On peut également utiliser le procédé afin d'éliminer d'autres éléments délétères tels que P, Cr, Al, Mn, Zn et analogue, ledit procédé n'étant pas seulement applicable à la boue d'hydroxyde de fer mais aussi à d'autres types de boues ainsi qu'à divers types de matières résiduelles solides.

Titanium or other biocompatible metal fibers having a diameter of from about 20 to about 200 R m, a length of from about 2 to 50 mm and a length-to-diameter ratio of at least about 100 are formed into a flexible and deformable mass, for example, a sheet, of interlocked fibers, which may be sintered for additional coherence, to a thickness of from about 0.5 to 30 mm. The amount of fibers is such that the sheet has a voids volume of at least 65% preferably about 90%. The diameter of the pores of the porous sheet are at least about 150 µm such that bony tissue can grow in the pores. These porous sheets are highly malleable without loss of structural integrity or pore size distribution. Accordingly, the porous metal fiber mesh sheets are useful for stabilizing prosthetic devices or for general repair of defective bone structures.

It has a molecular weight of about 17000 daltons and a specified amino acid sequence. Methods of producing this protein and pharmaceutical utilisations thereof are suggested.

In the wall of the tin body grooves are introduced between tools radially movable in opposite senses towards the tin body, one tool being provided with ridges and the other with grooves registering with the ridges. This method makes it possible, contrary to the usual rollers, to introduce grooves with fairly small tolerances. Damage of the lacquer does not occur. Because of the forming of sharper grooves the radial strength will be improved and the wall thickness of the tin body can be reduced.
