摘要:
An expandable spinal implant configured for positioning within a space between adjacent vertebral bodies includes an upper body, a lower body, a ratchet mechanism, and a plurality of bone screws. The upper body and lower body are pivotably affixed at a first end and are capable of movement relative to each other. The ratchet mechanism is slidably disposed on one of the upper and lower body and is capable of engaging the opposite one of the upper and lower body thereby permitting movement of the upper and lower body relative to each other in a first direction, but not in a second direction. An insertion instrument capable of being attached to the expandable spinal instrument and a method of performing spinal surgery is also disclosed.

A screw insertion instrument includes a housing, a knob, a drive shaft, and a screw alignment post. The housing includes a proximal portion and a distal portion, and the proximal portion includes a proximal body portion defining a channel extending longitudinally therethrough along a longitudinal axis of the housing. The knob is coupled to the proximal portion of the housing and defines an aperture therethrough that is aligned with the longitudinal axis of the housing. The drive shaft extends through the aperture of the knob and the proximal portion of the housing. The screw alignment post is coupled to the distal portion of the housing and is aligned with the longitudinal axis of the housing.

A spinal fixation construct (1) for aligning vertebral bodies includes a bone screw (40), a spinal rod (30), a flexible member (20) and a fixation member (10). The spinal rod is disposed within a saddle portion of a housing of the bone screw, and includes an elongated body having a first end and a second end. The spinal rod is formed from a first material having a first modulus of elasticity. The flexible member is coupled to the spinal rod, and includes an elongated body having a first end portion and a second end portion. The flexible member is formed from a second material having a second modulus of elasticity that is different from the first modulus of elasticity. The fixation member includes a threaded body portion (16) and a head portion (14) defining a hole (14a) therethrough. A portion of the flexible member extends through the hole of the head portion.

A spinal implant has a proximal region and a distal region, and includes an upper body and a lower body each having inner surfaces disposed in opposed relation relative to each other. A proximal adjustment assembly is disposed between the upper and lower bodies at the proximal region of the spinal implant and is adjustably coupled to the upper and lower bodies, and a distal adjustment assembly is disposed between the upper and lower bodies at the distal region of the spinal implant and is adjustably coupled to the upper and lower bodies. The proximal and distal adjustment assemblies are independently movable with respect to each other to change a vertical height of at least one of the proximal region or the distal region of the spinal implant.

A spinal surgery modeling system includes a spine model and a spine movement device. The spinal surgery modeling system provides a three-dimensional hands-on model that can be configured to have any desired variation of spinal alignment of the spine model by hydraulic actuation of the spine movement device to simulate the biomechanical feel and behavior of a patient's spine. The spine model may include various vertebral body or disc conditions and allows a clinician to examine and/or adjust the model and observe the three-dimensional outcome of such adjustments.

A spinal fixation device includes a fastener affixable to a vertebral body and an attachment member. The attachment member is adapted for receiving the fastener and engaging a portion of the vertebral body. The fastener includes a shank and a collet. The collet includes a channel for receiving a spinal rod and a locking member.

An insertion device includes a first engagement arm having a first body portion and a first proximal extension, a second engagement arm including a second body portion and a second proximal extension, and an adjustment mechanism. The second proximal extension is disposed about the first proximal extension and is slidable therealong to vary a spacing between the first and second engagement arms. The adjustment mechanism includes an adjustment screw rotatably coupled to the first proximal extension and an adjustment cylinder coupled to the second proximal extension. The adjustment cylinder is configured to receive the adjustment screw in threaded engagement therewith such that rotation of the adjustment screw relative to the adjustment cylinder urges the second proximal extension to translate along the first proximal extension to vary the spacing between the first and second engagement arms.
