A sensing system including a sensing device (1) with cooperating electrical components (40, 41) which move relative to each other in response to a sensed environmental parameter to yield a reactance signal, which is transmitted to a remotely located processor having an oscillator for receiving the transmitted signal and generating a transduced signal whose value corresponds to the value of the environmental parameter.

An electro-hydraulic heart massage device comprising a specific frame design with an integrated hydraulic plunger frame of which is adapted to be strapped over the patient's chest. The frame is designed with two protruding arms stretching towards the patient's armpits and this frame comprises flexible straps (16, 17) coiled onto spring biased rotatable reels (12, 13). The straps end in respectively arranged armpit stays (6, 7) which are locked as they are depressed into rows of recesses (1) in a back support containing batteries and a hydraulic aggregate. The plunger (35) of the frame is arranged around the piston rod (34) and stops against a limiting means (42, 43) which limits the travel of the plunger automatically according to the size of the patient's chest.

A portable self-powered electronic cardiopulmonary resuscitation prompting apparatus includes a keyboard comprising keys (A-C, 1-5) for identifying the age group of the victim, the number of rescuers, whether mouth-to-mouth resuscitation is to be given and whether the victim is conscious or unconscious. An LCD display (24) provides visual information to the rescuer and a loudspeaker (26) provides audible intelligible prompts which are reproduced phonemes originating from a speech synthesizer LSI chip using the PARCOR method, in response to signals provided by a microcomputer which processes the information indicated by the keyboard entries.

The present invention relates to a cardiopulmonary resuscitation device that measures electrocardiogram and oxygen saturation during a cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedure, detects brain activity in real time which is a degree of blood circulation to the brain by measuring electroencephalogram, is equipped with a defibrillation function, uses a brain activation index as a CPR signal indicating a degree of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and is capable of bio signal remote monitoring in a pre-hospital step. The cardiopulmonary resuscitation device includes an electroencephalogram detection unit for detecting an electroencephalogram signal in the frontal lobe and a calculation processing unit for detecting a brain activation index from an electroencephalogram signal received by the electroencephalogram detection unit. The cardiopulmonary resuscitation device uses a brain activation index as a CPR signal indicating a degree of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and the brain activation index is any one of a burst suppression ratio (BSR), a beta ratio, and a relative synchrony of fast and slow wave (SynchFastSlow, SFS). The calculation processing unit removes a noise in an electroencephalogram signal received by the electroencephalogram detection unit and calculates a beta ratio from the electroencephalogram signal in which a noise has been removed according to: Beta Ratio = log spectral power 30 − 47 Hz / spectral power 11-20Hz (where spectral power (30-47Hz) is a power spectrum of 30 to 47Hz in the electroencephalogram and spectral power (11-20Hz) is 11 to 20Hz in the electroencephalogram).

In some embodiments, a method may include clearing a biological airway. The method may include positioning an inner wearable harness on a torso of a subject. The method may include selectively positioning at least some of a plurality of engines on and/or adjacent at least one treatment area. At least one of the plurality of engines may be releasably couplable to the inner wearable harness. The method may include positioning an outer wearable harness on a torso of a subject. The method may include applying an oscillation force to at least one of the treatment areas using at least some of the plurality of engines. The method may include adjusting the applied oscillation force to the treatment area by activating the outer wearable harness. The method may include mobilizing at least some secretions in an airway within the subject substantially adjacent the at least one treatment area.
