High solids coating compositions are made by blending a crosslinkable organic polymer, a solvent, at least one reactive urea derivative, a crosslinking agent and optionally a crosslinking catalyst. The resultant high solids coating compositions can be either solutions or dispersions depending upon the particular polymer and solvent and the reactive urea chosen as the reactive cosolvent or reactive diluent. The reactive urea derivatives can be mixed with reactive carbamate derivatives.
Abstract:
A composition suitable for forming surface coatings, laminates or composite materials formed by bringing together: (a) a first polymer containing carboxylic acid, anhydride or acid chloride groups, (b) an amine or alcohol or a derivative thereof which is a tertiary amine, a ketimine, an acetal or an oxazolidine and (c) a second polymer capable of cross-linking with the first polymer in the presence of the amine or alcohol. The components may be initially in two packs and either mixed prior to application or sprayed onto the surface simultaneously from separate nozzles. The surface coatings are particularly suitable for coating surfaces which are otherwise difficult to coat and protect and may be applied to wet or rusted surfaces without surface preparation.

A curable coating composition comprising (A) 100 parts by weight of non-aminoplast hydroxyl-bearing polymer, (B) 10 to 60 parts by weight of a polyglycol monoether having an atmospheric boiling point of 150°C or greater, preferably 300°C or greater, (C) an aminoplast or phenolic resole resin for curing (A) to a tack-free state, and (D) a catalytic amount of a catalyst for the reaction between (A) and (C).

A coating composition set including: a colored coating composition (a), a luster coating composition (b), and a clear coating composition (c), wherein the colored coating composition (a) includes a hydroxy group-containing resin (a1), a first curing agent (a2), and a coloring pigment (a3); the hydroxy group-containing resin (a1) includes a first hydroxy group-containing resin (a11) having a number average molecular weight of 3000 or less and a second hydroxy group-containing resin (a12) having a number average molecular weight of 100000 or more; the luster coating composition (b) includes a scaly pigment (b1), a cellulose ester derivative (b2), a cellulose nanofiber (b3), a phosphoric acid group-containing compound (b4), and an aqueous solvent (b5); the luster coating composition (b) has a solid content of 0.1% by mass or more and 12% by mass or less; and the clear coating composition (c) is a two-pack type including a third hydroxy group-containing resin (c1) and a second curing agent (c2).
