The method of producing an inorganic fiber mat includes a fiber collection step of applying a binder to inorganic fibers and accumulating in a mat-like shape on a conveyor line to form an inorganic fiber web, a binder-curing step of heat-curing the binder applied to the inorganic fiber web to form an inorganic fiber mat, and an aldehyde scavenger application step of applying an aldehyde scavenger to the inorganic fibermat, in which the aldehyde scavenger application step involves spraying the aldehyde scavenger in a form of droplets having an average diameter of 1 to 50 µm on a front side of the inorganic fiber mat and sucking from a back side of the inorganic fiber mat.

In one embodiment, the method entails coating a nanoreinforcement material with a powder coat to form a powder coated nanoreinforcement material and contacting at least one carbon fiber with the powder coated nanoreinforcement material. Preferably, the powder coat is a thermoplastic or adhesive. The apparatus is made up of (a) a spray enclosure sized to contain the article(s) to be treated; (b) dispensing means, such as nozzles, which are configured to dispense sequentially, hot solution (i), hot solution (ii) and hot water (iii) directly onto the article surface(s); (c) means for securing and transporting the article to be treated into and out of the spray enclosure (such as a trolley system); and at least three closed vessels capable of delivering enough hot saturated coloring and/or performance enhancing solution, hot dye-free rinse solution and deionized water, respectively, with sufficient pressure to form small droplets from the spray nozzles, to thoroughly cover and rinse articles contained in the enclosure.
