Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a system for digital displaying images of various colors and appearances of an article and the use thereof. The invention is particularly directed to a system for displaying images for selecting one or more matching formulas to match color and appearance of an article. The invention is even further directed to a system for displaying images for selecting one or more matching formulas to match color and appearance of a target coating of a vehicle.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an apparatus and method for characterizing the photometric and/or colourmetric properties of a light source. The apparatus comprises a detector system which generates data indicative of at least spectroradiometric data for at least a portion of the light emitted by the light source. The apparatus further comprises a manipulation stage configured to control the relative position between the detector system and the light source. In addition, the apparatus comprises a control and processing system configured to control operation of the detector system, operation of the manipulation stage and record the data and the relative position of the detector system associated therewith. The control and processing system is further configured to process the collected data for determination of the photometric and/or colourmetric properties of the light emitted by the light source.
Abstract:
The invention provides an apparatus for sampling and determining characteristics of a light source. The apparatus comprises a sensor system configured to sample the spatial and spectral radiation characteristics of the light source and a goniometer that is configured to desirably control and adjust the relative position between the sensor system and the light source. The goniometer is configured to position the sensor system relative to the light source using two or more degrees of freedom. The apparatus additionally includes a control system configured to control the operation of the sensor system and the sampling of the spatial and spectral radiation characteristics of the light source. The control system is further configured to control operation of the goniometer for the relative positioning of the sensor system and the light source.
Abstract:
A process for refinishing or repainting a damaged paint area of a vehicle or part thereof using a computer-implemented method to determine a refinish paint formula that can be matched to the color of the original paint; in this process: a) the color data values of the original paint to be matched are determined; b) the color data values are entered into a computer containing a color cluster data base and color clusters each having a centroid and a refinish paint formula associated with each centroid; c) the color data values of the original paint are positioned in a color cluster via computer implementation and a refinish paint associated with the centroid of the color cluster having color characteristics close to the color characteristics of the original paint is obtained; and d) spray applying the refinish paint of step c) to the damaged paint area using conventional techniques thereby matching the color characteristics of the refinish paint to the undamaged original paint of the vehicle.
Abstract:
The method of identifying an effective pigment comprises: a first step of imaging a target effective pigment to obtain image data thereof; a second step of subjecting the obtained image data to background processing and extracting image data concerning a region containing one particle of the effective pigment as image data for processing; a third step of extracting image characteristic parameters from the image data for processing; and a fourth step of identifying the target effective pigment, based on the image characteristic parameters of the target effective pigment extracted in the third step, using a pre-prepared database that stores information on various kinds of effective pigments in such a manner as to correlate with the image characteristic parameters of various kinds of effective pigments extracted by conducting the second and third steps.
Abstract:
A paint color is specified from a computer graphics picture characterized by displaying a computer graphics picture suitable for the impression of a desired paint color on a display unit, obtaining color informations on displayed colors in two or more designated regions on the displayed picture, and searching and selecting a paint color having color information approximate to the color informations on the display colors from a database previously storing color informations on a plurality of paint colors.
Abstract:
An apparatus (10), and method of use thereof, for multiangular visual evaluations of color properties of paint color samples which contain metallic flakes, comprising a cylindrical or semi-cylindrical shaped body (12) capable of securing a color sample panel (ABC) upon the central axis (22), wherein the circumference of the body has a partially glossy or mirrored reflective surface (16), and also has one or more marks (18) indicating specific aspecular viewing angles relative to the plane of a color sample panel, thus allowing for improved correlation between visual and instrumental color evaluations of coated surfaces which contain metallic flakes.
