A deflection yoke (10) for a cathode ray tube improves assembly and productivity and enables effective control of magnetic field corrections during device processing. The deflection yoke includes a horizontal deflection coil (12) located next to the outer circumference of a funnel (4) to generate a horizontal magnetic field, and a vertical deflection coil (14) installed at the outer circumference of the funnel to generate a vertical deflection magnetic field. The vertical deflection coil is insulated from the horizontal deflection coil. A ferrite core (16) is located close to the vertical deflection coil to reduce the loss in the magnetic force generated from the horizontal and vertical deflection coils, and to enhance their magnetic efficiency. A correction unit (20) is spaced apart from the horizontal deflection coil by a predetermined distance to correct a geometric distortion of the vertical and the horizontal deflection magnetic fields that is generated due to the vertical and horizontal deflection coils.

The pair of bar-shaped magnets (8) sandwich the neck portion (3a) substantially in an in-line direction of an in-line type electron gun (4), and are provided so that identical poles are opposed to each other, between an end plate (63b) of an insulating frame (63) of a deflection yoke (6) and the CPU (9) at a distance from the end plate (63b). In the case where a rotational shift of electron beams is caused, electron beams (R) and (B) are corrected so as to move upward and downward (or downward and upward) respectively by a quadrupole magnetic field generated by the quadrupole magnets (93). Then, the electron beams (R) and (B) are corrected so as to move downward and upward (or upward and downward) respectively by the quadrupole magnetic field generated by the pair of bar-shaped magnets (8). In a deflection yoke for use in a color cathode ray tube receiver, two sets (30, 31) of sextuple pole coils formed of bifilar windings are disposed around the orbits of three electron beams emitted from an electron gun of a cathode ray tube. Horizontal-period parabolic currents produced in a bridge circuit consisting of saturable reactors (36, 37) are caused to flow in such sextuple pole coils (30,31). Further more the parabolic currents are modulated at the vertical period by the saturable reactors (36, 37). Then sextuple-pole magnetic fields are generated by the modulated parabolic currents to thereby exert vertical force on the three electron beams, hence realizing proper correction of ΔVCR to consequently optimize the balance between the corners and the center of a screen. Such optimization is conventionally difficult due to some restrictions existing in the winding distribution of a vertical deflection coil and a horizontal deflection coil in relation to convergence and focus of side beams.

The composite correction circuit is connected in series to horizontal deflection coils (3,4). In the color display tube device using an in-line self-convergence system, it is made possible to correct a PQH mis-convergence and reduce pincushion distortion at the left and right occurring before correction by a monitor set while preventing deterioration of the focus performance.
