In the invention, a reception intensity threshold value at which it is determined in a wireless communication function of a SIM card that a received signal is present, and a transmission output upon signal transmission are changed in response to a structure of a mobile terminal device to which the SIM card is inserted. A response signal (SIG402) containing a reception intensity value of a authentication level setting signal (SIG401), and a response signal (SIG404) containing a reception intensity value of a authentication level setting signal (SIG403) are received. A reception intensity value of the authentication level setting signal (SIG401) and a reception intensity value of the authentication level setting signal (SIG403) are compared and a larger reception intensity value X is stored. A used antenna (antenna P) that is used when the reception intensity value X has been obtained is specified, and, an antenna to be used to transmit a signal transmitted from the reader/writer device 150 in an authentication phase is decided.

The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for providing energy to passive tags (4) in a radio-frequency identification system (1). In a radio-frequency identify-cation system (1) using the passive tags (4), a reader/writer (2) will send commands and continuous waves (10) alternately during a communication process, and the tags (4) can obtain energy from these signals sent by said reader/writer (2). The method of the present invention is that, at least one period is selected from those periods for transmitting the continuous waves (10) , and for the continuous wave (10) transmitting signals during this period, an enhanced transmitting power is used, or a extended transmitting time is used, or during this period continuous waves (10) are sent additionally to the tags (4) by an independent energy supplying apparatus (24) provided separately, so that the tags (4) can obtain from the continuous waves (10) during said selected period more energy for reading and/or writing, thereby improving the reliability of the reading and/or writing operations, and increasing the rewritable range of the radio-frequency identification system (1).

A tag reader/writer repeatedly reads data from each responding IC-tag existing in an area where communication with the reader/writer can be established in a noncontact way. The reader/writer transmits the read data to an administrative device. The administrative device generates data which shows the result of reading in chronologic order determines the maximum number of continuous successful read operations for each tag and the ratio of this maximum number and the number of read instructions. On the basis of this ratio it is decided whether the read data originates from a desired tag response or from an accidental response of a nearby tag that should not be read.

A radio communication device transmits interrogation radio wave to unspecified radio tags (ST5). When specifying a radio tag which returns a response radio wave for the interrogation radio wave (ST7), the device transmits a processing radio wave to the specified radio tag (ST9). In this case, transmission power of the processing radio wave is always set larger than transmission power of the interrogation radio wave.

A tag reading device can effectively read a plurality of tags. The tag reading device includes a power control unit (109) for controlling an output power of a transmission unit (101) by a control signal so as to transmit transmission data with an output power set by an output power setting unit (108). When a plenty of tags exist in a readable area and identifiers of the gags frequently make collisions, firstly, the output power of the transmission unit (101) is reduced so as to narrow the readable area and suppress generation of collisions. When the number of tags existing in the readable area of a reader (100) and not yet read has become small, the output power of the transmission unit (101) during retransmission is increased and the readable area of the reader (100) is increased and the remaining tags are effectively read.
