A thermoplastic polyester resin represented by general formula (1) or (2) which has a melt index of from 1 to 50. The polyester resin is excellent in flexibility, flame retardancy, and thermal aging resistance. The electric wire, insulated cable, and heat-shrinkable tube obtained with the resin are excellent also in abrasion resistance: wherein Ra1 is an aromatic and/or aliphatic hydrocarbon group; Ra2 is a hydrocarbon group; Ra3 is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group having a C=C bond; Rb is a hydrocarbon group; and l, m, n, p and q each is a positive integer.

A polyester film for electrical insulation having an apparent density of 1.37-0.85 g cm and a modulus of tensile elasticity of 2.0-4.5 GPa. The film has a low oligomer property, a high heat resistance, a high shock resistance, a high formability, an excellent incorporation stability, and improved visibility. When this film is used for electrical insulation of motors, leakage currents hardly flow.

The invention concerns the use of a resin compound (A) as impregnating, casting and coating compounds for electrotechnical and/or electronic components and for carrier materials for plane insulating materials. The resin compound (A) contains: A1) at least one unsaturated polyester resin; A2) at least one vinylether with a viscosity of less than 4000 mPa.s at 25 °C; A3) optionally at least one further polymer and/or oligomer; A4) optionally at least one curing accelerator; A5) optionally at least one ethylenically unsaturated reactive thinner; and A6) optionally further conventional additives. The invention further concerns coating compounds which cure with low emission and are suitable for this purpose.

The present invention is an improved electric insulation composition of a polymer and an additive that reduces water treeing due to electrical aging in water. The polymer additive is a hydrophobic/hydrophilic material with good compatibility with the polymer. The present invention is also a method of preventing electrical breakdown due to the formation of water trees by forming electrical cables with the insulation containing the disclosed anti-treeing additive.

Thermoplastic compositions based on polybutylene terephthalate are provided which are useful in high temperature resistant wire coating applications. These compositions generally are four-component alloys containing a) 40-65 % by weight of poly (1,4-butylene terephthalate); b) 1-30 % by weight of a polymeric grafting agent which is an ethylene copolymer carrying reactive groups; c) 0-20 % by weight of an ethylene copolymer ionomer; d) at least one component selected from the group of a copolyester urethane, a copolyether ester, a hydrogenated styrene/diene block copolymer optionally grafted with maleic anhydride, an adduct of maleic anhydride and a copolymer of ethylene or an acrylic-modified elastomer-based polymer.
