Cyclic bisamides may be used to formulate inks for jet ink printing. The cyclic bisamide may be prepared from a cyclic diamine and acylic monocarboxylic acids. Conversely, the cyclic bisamide may be prepared from a cyclic diacid and acylic monoamines. The performance properties of the product may be enhanced by adding some additional difunctional reactant(s), e.g., diacid or diamine. A blend of bisamides may provide better performance properties than either of the component bisamides alone, where the blend includes at least one cyclic bisamide. The bisamides, in combination with an image-forming material, and optionally in combination with other materials, is taken to a molten form and then applied to a substrate to provide a printed substrate.

A block copolymer of the formula hydrocarbon-polyetherpolyamide-polyether-hydrocarbon is described. The copolymer may be prepared by reacting together reactants that include dimer acid, diamine, and a polyether having both hydrocarbon termination and termination selected from one of amine, hydroxyl and carboxyl. The copolymer may be combined with a polar liquid to form a gel, where the gel may be transparent and may be incorporated into household and consumer products including antiperspirants. The copolymer may be formulated as a personal care product.

A curable composition is placed on a candle, and then the composition is exposed to curing conditions such as ultraviolet light, to thereby cure the coating composition and provide a candle having a cured coating. The curable composition may be the reaction product of TMPTA (trimethylolpropanetriacrylate), itself the reaction product of trimethylolpropane and acrylic acid) and oleyl amine (an unsaturated primary amine having eighteen carbons). The candle may be made of wax or a gelled solvent, i.e., a mixture of gellant and solvent, particularly a hydrocarbon or other low polarity solvent. The undiluted coating may be applied by spraying on the oily surface of the candle. Ultraviolet cure of the coating occurs in 1-2 seconds.

Solid compositions containing diamidediurethanes are useful as components of hot-melt-inks. Diamidediurethanes may be prepared by reaction of a hydroxycarboxylic acid and/or lactone with either (1) monoamine and diisocyanate or (2) diamine and monoisocyanate. Alternatively, the diamidediurethane may be prepared by reacting a non-hydric carboxylic acid and/or anhydride with an hydroxyamine and a diisocyanate. The reactant identity and stoichiometry, as well as the reaction conditions, may be tailored to optimize the formation of diamidediurethane in preference to high molecular weight oligomers. The hot-melt inks may be used in ink jet, flexographic, gravure and intaglio printing.

Distilled tall oil fatty acids are improved by irradiation which isomerizes trans-dimethoxystilbene (trans-DMS) impurity to cis-dimethoxystilbene which is easily removed by fractional distillation. Thus, the trans-DMS is removed without loss of fatty acid components from the distilled tall oil fatty acid.

Inert esters of rosin and a primary polyhydric alcohol, such as rosin-pentaerythritol esters, are modified by reacting commercially available rosin esters which contain residual hydroxyl groups with a lower aliphatic carboxylic acid or anhydride, for example, acetic anhydride or propionic anhydride, to substantially completely esterify the residual hydroxyl groups. The resulting inert, completely esterified rosin esters, when formulated with non-polar natural rubber or SBR in adhesive systems, results in a time-stable tack value not available with conventional rosin esters.

An asphalt mixture comprising an oligoterpene composition and reclaimed asphalt and/or virgin asphalt, a method of preparing said asphalt mixture, a bituminous binder-oligoterpene blend and a method for rejuvenating reclaimed asphalt or treating virgin asphalt are disclosed, wherein the oligoterpene composition comprises at least one oligoterpene with at least two isoprene moieties selected from a diterpene, a triterpene, a tetraterpene, a pentaterpene and a hexaterpene. The method of preparing an asphalt mixture comprises mixing the oligoterpene composition with reclaimed asphalt and/or virgin asphalt. The oligoterpene-bituminous binder blend, comprises 0.5-50 wt. % of the oligoterpene composition based on the total weight of the blend. The method for rejuvenating reclaimed asphalt or treating virgin asphalt comprises mixing the oligoterpene composition with reclaimed asphalt or virgin asphalt to form a modified asphalt.
