    摘要： An apparatus and method for gathering and reporting interference signal information between Relay Stations (RSs) in a multi-hop relay Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) communication system are provided. The method includes receiving, from the RS, scanning information of neighboring Base Stations (BSs) and neighboring RSs, computing the resource allocation to be used by the RS by using the received scanning information, and transmitting information on the computed resource allocation to the RS. Accordingly, there is an advantage in that wireless resources can be reused to the maximum extent, and data transmission efficiency can be maximized.

The method includes the steps of receiving a handover request message from the serving BS, the handover request message including a resource remain type field representing whether the connection information having been set with the serving BS is retained, and a resource retain time field representing a connection information-retaining time by the serving BS, and recognizing that the serving BS retains the connection information during a time determined by a value of the resource retain time field.

At least one of RS neighboring the MS measures quality of a link to the BS, generates link quality information using the measured link quality, and transmits the link quality information to the MS. The MS receives the link quality information from the RSs, selects an optimal path depending on the received link quality information, and transmits information on the selected optimal path to the BS.

    摘要： A method and a system for periodic ranging in a sleep mode of a broadband wireless access communication system having an awake mode in which data to be transmitted between a mobile subscriber station (MSS) and a base station (BS) exists and the sleep mode in which data to be transmitted between the MS and the BS does not exist, the sleep mode having a sleep interval and a listening interval, the MSS being capable and incapable of receiving data in the listening interval and in the sleep interval, respectively. The BS reports to the MSS in a listening interval before the sleep interval that the MSS must perform the periodic ranging in the sleep interval when the BS detects that it is necessary for the MSS in the sleep mode to perform the periodic ranging at a particular time point in the sleep interval.
