摘要:
A fluid mixture is separated by distillation in which the feed (101) is prefractionated in a first column (103) having at least one separation stage (105) above or below the feed (101). When the separation stage (105) is above the feed (101), the prefractionator bottoms (125) provides feed to a second distillation column (109) operating at a lower pressure. When the separation stage is below the feed (101), a portion of condensed prefractionator overhead is pressurized and provides feed to a second distillation column. In both cases, no temperature in the first column (103) is greater than the highest temperature or less than the lowest temperature in the second column (109). The two-column system is readily combined with a high pressure column in a three-column distillation system for separating air, which is particularly useful for integration with a gasification combined cycle combustion turbine system.

The present invention relates to an improvement for the production of argon from cryogenic air separation processes. In particular, the improvement comprises satisfying a portion of the the crude argon column condensing duty with refrigeration (128) provided from the vaporization of a portion (159) of the liquid oxygen from the bottom of the low pressure column (119).

The cryogenic distillation of air in a single distillation column system is improved by (a) operating the column (152) at a pressure between 70 and 300 psia (0.5 and 2 MPa); (b) withdrawing a portion (160) of the liquid oxygen bottoms having an oxygen concentration greater than 80% oxygen from the bottom of the column and reducing the pressure of and vaporizing the withdrawn liquid oxygen by heat exchange (164) against a condensing nitrogen stream (182) removed from a top section of the column; (c) feeding the condensed, nitrogen stream (184) to a top section of the column (152) as reflux; and (d) recovering the vaporized oxygen (168) as at least a substantial portion of the oxygen product. Preferably boilup is provided by boiling at least another portion of the liquid oxygen bottoms by heat exchange (142) against (a) an air stream (141) at a higher pressure than the feed air stream or (b) a recycle nitrogen stream (140) at a pressure greater than the operating pressure of the column, or by recycling a portion of the oxygen product (168) at a pressure of at least the operating pressure of the column to the bottom thereof and/or by providing intermediate boilup to the stripping section of the column by vaporizing a portion of descending column liquid by heat exchange (264) against either an air stream (141) at a higher pressure than the feed air stream or a recycle nitrogen stream (203) at a pressure greater than the operating pressure of the column.

1. A cryogenic distillation process for the production of oxygen and nitrogen, which comprises:
a) cooling at least a fraction of a cleaned and dried feed stream (10) containing at least oxygen and nitrogen and introducing the same into a high pressure column (13), and separating the same into nitrogen-rich stream at the top of the column and an oxygen-rich stream at the bottom of the column, wherein the overhead of the high pressure column exchanges heat with both the bottom of the low pressure column (19) and the bottom of an intermediate column (28), b) introducing at least a fraction of the oxygen-rich stream (2) into said intermediate column to afford a top liquid fraction A (32) and a bottom liquid fraction B (21), the overhead of the intermediate column exchanging heat (29) with the low pressure column at a location above the bottom reboiler (30) of the low pressure column, wherein the pressure of the intermediate column is lower than the high pressure column but higher than the low pressure column, c) introducing at least a fraction of the liquid fractions A and B into the low pressure column as feed, d) feeding at least a fraction of the nitrogen-rich stream (22) of step b) to the low pressure column as reflux, and e) recovering an oxygen-rich stream (25) product at the bottom of the low pressure column and a nitrogen-rich stream (24) at the top of the low pressure column.
摘要:
Air which has had water vapour and carbon dioxide removed therefrom is introduced at about its dew point into a higher pressure distillation column 4 through an inlet 8, and is separated into oxygen-rich and nitrogen-rich fractions. A stream of oxygen-enriched liquid is withdrawn from the higher pressure column 4 through an outlet 18 and is introduced into a lower pressure distillation column 6 in which it is separated into oxygen and nitrogen. Nitrogen gas is taken from an outlet 32 at the top of the lower pressure column 6 and is employed in a heat pump cycle in which it is compressed in compressor 34, cooled in heat exchanger 2, condensed in reboiler 26 to provide reboil for the column 6, and returned to the top of the column 6 as reflux. A part of the liquid nitrogen stream leaving the reboiler 26 is diverted from the flow to the top of the column 6 and is pumped into the top of the column 4 as reflux. The operating pressures of the columns 4 and 6 are thus able to be set independently of one another.
