A methodology is disclosed for arranging markings on a ball or sphere where the markings exhibit spin induced contrast when the ball or sphere is rotated at a sufficient speed. The methodology is based on a layout utilizing a plurality of geodesic lines symmetrically arranged around the ball or sphere. Various markings can then be applied on the basis of the layout such that when the ball or sphere is rotated, the markings form contrast lines that are perpendicular to the axis of spin of the ball or sphere, at any axis of spin. These contrast line allow an observer to more accurately detect the axis of spin of the ball or sphere as well as track the ball or sphere in motion.

A rubber composition comprises a rubber component. The rubber component contains (A) 1-70 weight parts of polybutadiene rubber having a Mooney viscosity (ML) of 35-50 and composed of (a) 1-9 weight % of a boiled n-hexane insoluble fraction having a melting point of 180 °C or higher and (b) 99-91 weight % of a boiled n-hexane soluble fraction. The rubber component also contains (B) 99-30 weight parts of diene-based rubber other than (A). A crosslinking coagent (C) is mixed in the rubber component.

The invention relates to improved polyurethane ionomers and methods for making the same. It was found that the polyurethane anionomers obtained by using the method of the invention had improved physical properties than those made by conventional methods. For example, the polyurethane ionomers produced by the method of the invention exhibit a plateau in the plot of elasticity modulus (as log10E') vs. temperature over a useful and relatively broad temperature and frequency range. The polyurethane ionomers have nearly temperature-independent elasticity over a 50°C range in the region of ~ -20 to +75°C. Another advantage is that the polyurethane ionomers of the invention are optically clearer than the conventionally prepared polyurethane ionomers. A further advantage of the invention is that the synthetic process of making the polyurethane ionomers is much faster than the known process for equivalent compositions. Additionally, striking tensile strength properties were observed for the polyurethane ionomers.
