The hot-rolling process for a stainless steel slab includes heating a stainless slab containing 10 weight percent or more of chromium in a heating furnace and hot-rolling the slab. A surface treatment , which is used prior to the heating, composition is composed of a mixture containing at least one of a Ca compound and a Ba compound and a binder for binding the mixture to a slab surface and for forming a coating film on a slab surface.

In the box annealing of steel sheet, the tendency for adjacent wraps of the sheet to pressure weld (stick) is decreased or eliminated by passing the sheet, prior to annealing, through a rinse containing from 1,500 to 10,000 ppm of the magnesium or calcium salts of soluble carboxylic acids, preferably formates. Further benefits are realized if the sheet is electro-cleaned with a silicate containing cleaning solution, and thereafter rinsed in the formate solution whereby the latter acts to fix the concentration of silicates remaining on the surface of the sheet.

Improvement in the manufacture of oriented grain steel sheet. The improvement relates to coating step of the sheet with annealing separators in order to obtain a complete purification of the steel from harmful components as well as the production, during the annealing step, of a continuous and adherent layer of glass film having the same and constant thickness on both surfaces of the steel sheet. The invention consists in that the coating of the sheet with said annealing separator is carried out from a suspension of annealing separator in a suspension medium having a non-aqueous base, preferably commercial ethyl alcohol containing limited and controlled amounts of water, using the continuously passing steel sheet as the cathode of an electrophoretic cell, the anodes being a couple of electrodes placed in, and near the free surface of, the bath, simmetrically with respect to the steel sheet.

To provide a steel sheet for hot stamping that further improves productivity of a hot-stamped member, has excellent appearance, and has excellent spot weldability, and a hot-stamped member. A steel sheet for hot stamping according to the present invention includes, on the whole of at least one surface of the steel sheet, a surface-treated film whose emissivity at a wavelength of 8.0 µm at 25°C is 60% or more, in which the surface-treated film contains carbon black, and one or more of oxides selected from a group consisting of a Zr oxide, a Zn oxide, and a Ti oxide, in which the carbon black and the oxides exist while being dispersed over the entire surface-treated film, the surface-treated film has a silica content of 0 to 0.3 g/m 2 , and when an adhesion amount of the carbon black and an adhesion amount of the oxides are set to X CB (g/m 2 ) and X Oxide (g/m 2 ), respectively, an equation (1) is satisfied.
