摘要: A universal line driver interface (82) which enables a digital telephone computer/telephony interface to configure itself automatically or on the fly to accommodate different PBXs. The interface (82) is connected to a PBX (50') and to a digital telephone (70'). The interface (82) is also connected to network interface logic (66'). A microcontroller (84), which is part of the computer in the computer telephony system, is connected in controlling relation to the interface (82) and to the network interface logic (66'). The microcontroller (84) under program control changes operational parameters in the interface (82) as a function of electrical characteristics of the particular type of PBX to which the interface (82) is connected. The changes in operational parameters of the interface (82), in turn, are used to configure the network interface logic (66') depending upon the type of PBX. The universal nature of the interface (82) is achieved by adaptability to different transmission and receiver voltage levels and an ability to match a range of telephone line impedances.

摘要: A facsimile system and method provides authentication of transmitted image information, which authentication may be in the form of a signature page. An authentication device computes authentication information at a sending device, a receiving device, both, or at a remote location during transmission. The signature page may also be transmitted with the document. The sending and receiving devices may each generate signature pages or acknowledgement of receipt in response to receiving a signature page. The authentication information may be encrypted with a public/private key pair. The authentication information may be in the form of a checksum, and may be prepared based on separate regions of the document. A previously generated signature page is compared to a newly generated signature page to verify the document content or authenticity. Document authentication signatures may include machine-readable symbols to represent the authentication information.

摘要: In a PBX environment, a middleware module abstracts communication cards so that the plurality of channels associated therewith are grouped for efficiency. The middleware module recognizes unoperational channels, and restarts the hardware associated with the channels as well as allowing conferencing and transferring calls when the PBX switch does not support same. Preferably, for outgoing calls, the middleware adapter controls the state of interfaces for all hardware adapters and tries to deliver calls over active interfaces. In case of failure, the middleware adapter investigates and makes a decision if the call should be delivered over another adapter. In this way, redundant and highly available solutions are implemented transparent to application and interface drivers. For incoming calls, the middleware adapter accepts calls from all hardware adapters and presents these calls to applications as if these calls are issued by one adapter.

摘要: A method where a datastream is received via one bus, and then is temporarily stored in a buffer memory. The datastream includes overhead data and payload data. The payload data is transmitted via a second bus. The overhead information includes information about the amount of subsequent payload data and may additionally include other information. The method extracts the information about the amount of payload data and other optional information, if any, from the received data stream and according to a reception of a complete message or a certain type of overhead information, the controlling logic of the second bus transmits or raises a request to optimally transmit the received message or parts thereof via the second bus to reduce latency for the transaction.

摘要: A technique for allocating resources in a call processing system is disclosed whereby different levels of resources are allocated depending upon the available headroom in the system. The technique allows advanced and better performing signal processing methods to be used when the system is relatively idle, and acceptable but less robust algorithms to be used when system loading is heavy.

摘要: Systems and methods of providing video support for standard (i.e., non-video-capable) communications systems (106) that require little or no modifications to any existing standard communications systems (106). The systems and methods can be implemented between at least one video channel and a standard communications system (106) to establish call connections between a user of a video-capable communications device (108) and a user of a standard (i.e., non-video-capable) communications device (110), to access video content and any associated audio content stored on a video server (104), and to exchange audio between the respective users of the video-capable (108) and standard communications devices (110) while controlling the video and/or audio output of the video-capable communications device (108), using the video content and any associated audio content accessed from the video server (104). The systems and methods can significantly enhance the experience of the user of the video-capable communications device (108), without requiring cost prohibitive upgrading or replacement of any existing standard communications systems (106).

摘要: A Group Exchange Port (GXP) is disclosed which provides an organized technique for passing control of live objects (e.g.; a telephone call, a robotic arm, flying aircraft, etc.) from a first application operating on and processing the object to a second such application. In accordance with the invention, a Group Exchange Port is provided where buyer applications register there willingness to accept control of the system and sellers may "advertise" an object for sale. When a suitable buyer (i.e.; one that has the proper resources for servicing and controlling the active system) is found, control of the object is passed from the seller to the buyer. Importantly, the GXP requires that control of the object always be maintained by one and only one application, that control not be passed to an application which cannot properly service and/or control the system, and that an application presently controlling the system does not relinquish such control until a new application accepts such control. The technique allows loosely coupled applications to work with the same object.
