The invention concerns a method of repairing manufacturing flaws in porous separator strips for storage batteries, whereby a repair material is applied deliberately to the flaw in-line during separator production such that the flaw is sealed, or whereby the flaw is heated at points in-line and thereby welded. Resins and/or polymers, dispersed in a dispersing agent, polymerizable materials and hot melts are suitable in particular as repair materials. Ultra-sound is preferably used for welding.

The fibers have a diameter in the range of 0.1 to 13 microns (u) and lengths greater than 12 millimeters (mm). The mat has a basis weight ranging from 6 to 160 grams per square meter (g/m2), a thickness of less than 75 microns (u), and an average pore size of 0.3 to 50 microns (u).
