    摘要: A friction clutch driven plate incorporates a hub member 11 and a friction disc carrier 14 between which there is arranged a torsional vibration damper. The torsional vibration damper takes the form of springs 26 arranged in windows 23, 24 in the friction disc carrier and 25 in the hub member together with a friction washer 27. The friction washer results in continuous frictional resistance to relative movement between the hub member and friction disc carrier while the springs provide resilient resistance to such angular movement. The springs and windows are arranged to provide some lost motion during which the springs are ineffective and the friction device alone controls relative movement. This arrangement is particularly useful for damping out idler gear rattle in front wheel drive vehicles.

    摘要: The invention provides a valve suitable for use in an overdrive unit, to control the rate of build-up and decay of fluid pressure in piston and cylinder mechanisms which move a clutch member of the overdrive between engaged and disengaged positions. The valve comprises a body (10) with a valve member (20) moveable to control communication between an inlet passage (15) and an outlet passage (22), and a piston (24) which is moveable between limiting positions under fluid pressure. A spring (28) is interposed between the piston (24) and valve member (20), which spring becomes loaded during movement of the piston whilst causing a relatively small increase in load on the valve member (20) and thus a period during which pressure in passage (15) increases gradually, thus providing a smooth shift as the overdrive engages. A second spring (34) operates between the piston (24) and valve member (20) when the piston has reached the limit of its travel, and a third spring (30) provides a residual load on the valve member (20) when the piston is in its starting position.

    摘要: A friction clutch incorporates a flywheel 11 a driven plate 23 and pressure plate 16 with friction interfaces 24 and 25 between pairs of these members lubricated and/or cooled by fluid flung out centrifugally. A generally bell shaped distribution member constituted by a conical member 41 and part of the driven plate hub member 33 directs fluid past the interface 25 to a passage leading outward to the interface 24. Apertures 47 around the circumference of the distribution member allow some fluid to escape through the distribution member through a radial passage to the interface 25. Substantially equal distribution of oil between the two interfaces is achieved.
