Topical compositions to treat inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis comprise an effective amount of S-acyl glutathione derivative and a carrier. Methods for treating inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis comprise applying a composition containing S-acyl glutathione derivative in a dermatologically acceptable carrier to skin tissue. The acyl group is a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic C1 2 -C 24 group, preferably an unsaturated C 16 - C 24 group, most preferably an unsaturated C 18 group. In particularly preferred embodiments, the acyl group is a linoleoyl group.

Polyenylphosphatidylcholine in combination with an alkanolamine are topically applied to treat skin wounds, promote healing, and minimize scar formation. Typical compositions contain from about 0.25% to about 12% of a polyenylphosphatidylcholine preparation obtained from natural sources such as soybean oil which contains at least about 25% by weight, preferably about 40% or more, dilinoeoylphosphatidylcholine, and from about 0.1% to about 10% by weight of an alkanolamine such as ethylaminoethanol, methylaminoethanol, dimethylaminoethanol, isopropanolamine, triethanolamine, isopropanoldimethylamine ehtylethanolamine, 2-butanolamine, choline, serine, or mixtures thereof. Dimethylaminoethanol is a particularly preferred alkanolamine. Tyrosine is an adjunct ingredient in many embodiments.

Natural antioxidants that contain at least about 50 % polyphenols and 50 % catachins such as grape seed or green tea extracts are employed in some embodiments.
