摘要:
A relatively low cost, low friction plastic needle bearing assembly uses a unitary plastic circular member with multiple frangibly attached substantially cylindrical needles (4) axially inserted into a cover (9). A plastic needle separator housing element provides a race (6) and is in axial registration with the frangibly attached needles (4). A shaft (on which a sprocket of a web feed device or tractor is mounted), upon axial insertion through the member to which the needles (4) are attached, frees the multiple needles (4) from the frangible attachment to the member and ejects the member from the cover (9) leaving the needle bearings captured by the race in the cover (9).

An overhead unit used with a printer having a platen for feeding continuous, fan-folded, edge perforated forms. The tractors which engage the feed perforations on the forms are driven with the platen. The unit automatically bursts the side perforations along the margins of the forms where the feed perforations are located by the use of flexural members which extract energy from the forms feed and oscillates to shear the side perforations. Bursting of the cross perforations which separate successive forms is carried out by a pivotally mounted, lever actuated bar which engages the platen and forms a toggle therewith to engage the successive forms against the platen just below the cross perforations; the toggle being arranged to tighten and increase the clamping force, as the form is pulled away from the platen when bursting the cross perforations. Precision feeding of the forms so as to enable printing of high quality precise images on the forms is facilitated by a roller assembly including rollers engaging the outside of the loop on the infeed or upstream side of the platen to remove any platen wave due to differential displacement of the forms as they travel with linear motion through the tractors and with rotational motion around the platen. These rollers also steer the form to counteract lateral meandering thereof on the platen. Other rollers on the infeed side of the tractors wrap the forms to at least a 90° arc to eliminate positive tents at the cross perforations. Backlash is removed by a diagonally split collet and tapered sleeve which controls the clearance between the tractor drive shaft and the sprockets of the tractors. Additional rollers on the drive shaft and the support shaft for the tractors, which can be used together with fingers extending from the support shaft, stiffen the forms between the tractors to facilitate bidirectional feeding thereof and bursting by the shearing flexures.

A low cost, self contained endless conveyor belt assembly (10) includes a flat conveyor bed (14), an endless conveyor belt (12) and a plurality of frame members (16-19) mounted thereto. The bed mounted frame members (16-19) support and house a drive shaft (24) which includes sprockets (26) for engaging the front inside radius of the endless conveyor belt (12) and a remote mounted drive motor (28). The self contained conveyor belt assembly (10) is adjustably mounted to complemental frame rails (34), one of which includes the drive motor (36) to which can be coupled the drive pulley (39) of the endless conveyor belt (12).

A tractor for feeding perforated webs, such as perforated paper, to present successive lines for printing in a computer printer, typewriter or the like has a frame which locates a sprocket and a belt having pins projecting from the pitch line of the belt and lugs which are driven by the sprocket. In order to provide precision feeding of the web and to minimize drag and jamming, the lid is arranged with respect to the frame so that the web is maintained at or substantially at the pitch line of the belt in the region where the pins enter the perforations, are engaged by the perforations and leave the perforations. The distance between the surface of the lid which faces the belt and the belt surface is limited such that the perforations contact the pin surface below a critical position where the web clings to the pins. This is the position of repose where the angle between the surface of the belt and a line from the position of repose perpendicular to a tangent to the pin surface at that position which intersects the belt surface is equal to the arc tangent of the coefficient of friction between the web and pin materials. The lid surface is preferably provided by a rib extending the length of the lid so as to overlie and extend beyond the aforesaid region of entry and engagement of the pins and web perforations. This rib has a wall which provides a thrust surface against which the pins in the region can bear to accommodate the side thrust toward the center of the web when the web is driven by two tractors engaging rows of perforations along the opposite edges of the web.

A drive mechanism having a sprocket and a belt with inter-engaging lugs and receptacles on the belt and sprocket, respectively, wherein orthographic motion is obtained of the lugs into and out of the receptacles so as to provide for smooth, high efficiency transmission of drive forces by providing a fulcrum at inter-pitch spacing positions about which the belt bends along a radius centered at the fulcrum to bring the lugs directly into registry with the receptacles in the sprocket. The system provides virtual sprocket teeth, thereby effectively doubling or multiplying the number of teeth on the sprocket, compared to lugs on the belt so that a small, low-inertia, sprocket-belt drive system effectively provides the smoothness of transmission of a system with twice or greater the number of sprocket teeth than lugs, but without the cost of such additional teeth and lugs and without sacrificing belt life due to additional flexures of the belt. The drive system is embodied in a web feed tractor wherein the belt has pins which enter into and engage perforations in a web for feeding the web. Thefulcrums also locate the belt so as to accommodate the difference between the pitch of the belt lugs and the pitch of the sprocket teeth. The fulcrums also accommodate the arch in the belt when located on the sprocket due to the flexure of the belt about the edges of the lugs thereby providing for uniform registration of the drive system and spacing of lines printed on the web (paper) of a printer equipped with a tractor drive using the system.

An impact dot matrix print head has a body with a coil frame assembly and a nose piece on the rear of which the coil frame assembly is mounted. The nose piece has guides for print wires, the ends of which at the rear of the nose piece are in a circular array and are in a linear array and are maintained in sliding relationship by a linear slot guide at the front end of the nose piece so as to facilitate high quality high impact printing. An array of solenoidal coils and armatures complementary to the array of print wires at the rear end of the nose piece are located in the frame assembly. The armatures are freely disposed at one end on the frame and at the other end on the rear ends of the print wires. An end cap which bears on the frame assembly has a plurality of posts which extend through holes in each of the armatures and holes in spider springs which bear against the end caps and against the armatures where they bear against and pivot on the frame whereby to provide for ease of assembly and low friction guidance of the armatures and the spider springs which retain them. The springs may also be located with respect to the pivot so that they oppose the force of return springs on the print wires and partially balance such force to improve magnetic actuation of the armatures to help increase the printing speed of the head. Another end cap at the front of the frame assembly and the rear end cap are joined together by press fitting into posts to clamp the frame assembly into assembled relationship. A printed circuit board may be attached to the outside of the front end cap facing the front end of the nose piece. The coils are connected to energizing circuits for the print head by leads therefrom which extend through holes in the front end cap and are connected to the printed circuit board.
