摘要: A telephone operator signal analysis and manipulation subsystem (50) is configured to be interfaced with various signal transport paths of input/output devices of the operator's (personal computer-based) workstation (12). The subsystem is operative to intercept, analyze and selectively modify signals distributed among components of the workstation, including those that may prompt an interactive response from the operator, so as to alleviate the workload of the operator, and improve the efficiency and response time of the operator position. Because the subsystem analyzes and operates only on information that is presented to and sourced from the operator, it is able to automate various functions of the operator position, including initiating the generation of personalized audio messages, without knowledge of the communication protocol of the telecommunication switch to which the operator's workstation is coupled.

摘要: Wettable fibers or filaments are prepared from a composition having a polymer which has a wetting agent incorporated therein. The polymer is selected from the group consisting of olefin polymers, polyesters and polyamides. The wetting agent consists essentially of a glyceride selected from the group consisting of a mono-glyceride, a combination of mono-glycerides and a mixed glyceride having a mono glyceride content of at least 85 percent by weight. The fatty ester group or groups in the glyceride each have from about 12 to 22 carbon atoms. The olefin polymer is preferably polypropylene, LLDPE, LDPE and HDPE, more preferably polypropylene. The polyamide is preferably a nylon 6 and nylon 6,6. The polyester is preferably a polyethylene terephthalate and a polybuthylene terephthalate.

摘要: A progressive-scan charge-coupled device (PSCCD) camera (2) may capture an entire frame of an image of an optically readable code. The camera generates a histogram or probability distribution function (PDF) of the images and uses the histogram or PDF to automatically adjust the contrast of the image. The camera also generates a cumulative distribution function (CDF) which is used to automatically adjust the illumination intensity including the brightness of the image and the duration over which the image is obtained. The captured analog video image is converted to a digital video image which may be output over the camera's bidirectional bus interface (14) to a component outside of the camera. Updated programs, parameters and other information may be sent in the opposite direction over the bus interface to the camera. The camera may be mounted at a fixed station or may be incorporated into a portable unit, and may be hand-held and/or battery operated.

摘要: An ultrasonic measuring apparatus (Fig. 2) and method (Fig. 5) to accurately determine the depth of an overlaying backfat (14-20) on an animal (8) without incurring any damage to the animal. The apparatus employs a reverse time analysis approach in which a pulse generator (28) sends a preselected ultrasonic input signal by way of a piezoelectric transducer (16) through the outer skin (12) and successively through each one of the animal's fat layer interfaces (15, 17, 20) to a preselected distance within the loin portion (22) of the animal. This reverse time approach then analyzes the resulting echo signal produced by the input signal sequentially in a direction from this loin portion toward the outer fat layers (14, 16, 18). The first strong signal within a specified range, which depends on the species, breed, age or weight of the animal to be measured, is taken as the bottom-most fat/loin transition. A microprocessor (44) is employed to measure and analyze the amplitude and contour of this signal in a direction toward the loin until it reaches a fixed point that is a prescribed percentage of the peak value of the amplitude of this signal, the magnitude of which depends on the type of animal under measurement. The value derived in this manner is an accurate measurement of the depth of overlaying backfat and is automatically displayed in digital form on a screen (46).

摘要: A flat-panel display (10) comprising a hermetically sealed gas filled enclosure. The enclosure includes a top glass substrate (12) having a plurality of electrodes (20) and a thin dielectric film (22) covering the electrodes and a bottom glass substrate (14) spaced from the top glass substrate. The bottom glass substrate includes a plurality of alternating barrier ribs (24) and micro-grooves. An electrode (40) is deposited over each micro-groove and a phosphor (42) is deposited over a portion of each electrode coating.
