The present invention relates to a process for disintegrating lignocellulosic material (1) in a drum chipper. The process includes that the lignocellulosic material (1) is introduced to the drum chipper via an input device (2) and that the disintegrated lignocellulosic material is analysed (9) regarding its configuration. The disintegration takes place in a drum chipper comprising a stand carrying a horizontal, rotatable rotor (26), whose periphery has a plurality of knifes (30) and with each knife (30) cooperating radially adjustable wear plates (25) located at some distance from the knife edge, and a space for temporarily collecting the disintegrated lignocellulosic material between each pair of knives (30) and anvil steels. The process is characterized in that at least one process variable is changed during operation in the form of, that a certain cutting angle (ε) is set by regulation of the feeding device (2) position versus the rotor (26) and/or a specific T dimension is adjusted by changing the wear plate's (25) radial distance from the rotor (26) centre and/or that a certain cutting speed, i.e. the knife speed through the lignocellulosic material (1) is adjusted by changing the speed of the rotor (26).

The present invention relates to a method and system for torrefaction of biomass and combustion of generated torrefaction gases. The torrefaction gases released from the biomass during the torrefaction reaction are withdrawn from the reactor and into a first burning zone. A secondary stream of air is introduced to the first burning zone to combust the torrefaction gases whereupon hot flue gases are obtained. Part of the hot flue gases are directed to a mixing unit. The rest of the hot flue gas is directed to a second burning zone for complete combustion of the flue gases. The fully combusted flue gases obtained in the second burning zone are directed to a heat recovery unit where the temperature of the flue gas is decreased. Part of the cold flue gases are directed to the mixing unit where it is mixed with the hot flue gases such that a stream of cooled flue gases is obtained. The stream of the cooled flue gases are diverted into the torrefaction reactor for direct heating of the biomass.

The present invention relates to a method for pretreating a softwood starting material comprising the following steps: a) pretreating the softwood starting material in a pretreatment process to form a slurry; b) measuring the concentration of glucose and the concentration of mannose in the slurry formed in step a); c) calculating a ratio glucose:mannose from the concentrations measured in step b) d) comparing the ratio calculated in step c) to a reference value and if the ratio calculated in step c) differs from the reference value, controlling at least one process parameter of the pretreatment process in response to the difference.

The present invention relates to an artificial aquifer for decreasing the contents of metals, metalloids, nitrate, nitrite, pesticides and organic micro contaminants in natural ground water or artificial infiltrated groundwater from surface water. The system comprising a basin of filling material creating a reaction zone, a feeding line, one or more satellite wells, at least one main well and a pumping well, whereby the feeding line is applied in the upper outer periphery of the basin and wherein the main well is connected to a pumping well via a bottom outflow provided with a regulating valve to maintain a given level of water in the aquifer. The invention further relates to a method for purifying water.
